modern rocking chair
I have a fear of rocking chairs. There's a part in the movie The Amityville Horror when an invisible ghost rocks back and forth in a rocking chair next to a little girl's bed. Since then I haven't been able to look at the classic Granny rockers. I've actually asked friends to take them out of the guest room if I'm staying at their house. Really! (C'mon, we all have our peculiarities, right?)

Anyway, I stumbled upon this adorable kids "mod rocker" made by Brooklyn-based designer Lisa Albin a few weeks ago. It's an oldie (it won some design awards back in 2006) but it's so stylish that it's worth revisiting. I love the shine of the wood and its simple but sophisticated silhouette, so I wanted to share. Best of all, this little guy is made of sustainably harvested wood veneer. Kids will love stuffing their toys in the opening underneath or crawling through to the other side. The rocker, which costs about $300 (depending on the finish) at 2modern.com, doesn't spook me one bit. It's charm city.

Actually, check out Albin's entire Iglooplay line of modern kids furnishings. Think of it as interactive furniture. The "teapods" are moveable foam pieces of furniture that can be flipped around and used in different ways, i.e. a table rolled on its side becomes a chair. All of her pieces are a reminder that you can have as much fun decorating a kid's room as you can the rest of the house.
