Marthas Prefab Homes
The Martha Stewart/KB Homes models, called Lily Pond, Skylands, Katonah, and Dunemere, are based on Stewart's homes in New York, Connecticut, and Maine. Prices range from about $200,000 to $500,000.
Buyers can opt for "Martha's Choices"--colors, door knobs, cabinet pulls, china, and more, hand-chosen by the mogul. Even Stewart's personal landscaper got in on the deal--he created exterior landscaping packages tailored to each design.

What geographical area are these homes built in. The prices seem reasonable, but no square feet are listed, nor were the bathrooms shown. The kitchen seems overbuilt for this type of home, as it was large and well appointed. It just shows you how you can do things right for a reasonable price to those of us who are not very wealthy. Good work Martha.
ReplyThese are New England style homes. I visited one of the communities in Atlanta. The houses seemed out of place because they were so close together - not in keeping with housing styles in the area. Houses down South have yards instead of a sliver of grass in an outside area called a patio.
Replyi think the facade of the house looks terrible if the garage doors are the first thing you see about it...i think it's better to have the garage entrance to the side or from the back..i'm surprised martha, who is so visual didn't at least do one house like that...
ReplySome of the exteriors of these home designs are very New England with a Connecticut influence. But some seem designed to have a more generic appeal. The interiors are classic with some attractive details you don't usually encounter in mass produced homes. I think most of her choices are spot on and will have wide appeal. The prices seem fair and we can only assume that the quality is up to Martha's usual standards. Very nice.
ReplyThe prices listed are base price only. You do not get any of the mouldings, cabinetry, tile, appliances, etc for the base price. To get what you see in the pics we were told to be prepared to spend an additional 45K-70K in upgrades. It is very bare bones unless you do upgrade. And for the prices you pay you do not even get to choose wood floors; rather, a laminate, which is disappointing to those who do appreciate wood floors. And Martha has never even been to the homes, she had only contracted and sent her go-to person to oversee plans, nothing more.
We were VERY close to buying of of her homes in North Carolina. The models are named after the square footage, and you can then choose from three different types of exteriors/interior designs for the sq. footage planned homes. We fell in LOVE with the 3,608 sq. foot home, which was a cedar singled home with a courtyard that resembled a hamptons home. The main problem we had with the development was that is was directly underneath a flight path and you constantly had planes within close proximity flying overhead. We checked out her other development in Raleigh, but that too was in a not so desirable neighborhood. She is basically getting top dollar for sketchy neighborhoods. If I could buy the plans for the 3608 model I would do it in a heartbeat and build somewhere else. Go to the KB website where you can really look at her models.
ReplyGod I love that woman! The houses are definately affordable even with all the upgrades. The interiors have so much attention to detail, 100% Martha Stewart.
ReplyAs for the locations, someone commented she was getting top dollar for sketchy neighborhoods -- come on! Martha does as much as humanly possible everyday....now you expect her to make time for land acquisition too! I'm pretty sure KB is responsible for that.
I would love to live in a Martha Stewart PreFAB home!
