How many of you guys have been to Litchfield County in Connecticut? I was there once several years ago on a galleryhoot for Country Living magazine. The home we were photographing is a magnificently preserved home with a deep, deep history. It's where Connecticut Governor Oliver Wolcott lived when he signed that little thing known as the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This town has got some serious history and everywhere you go it's quaint, lovely and just feels special.

Now, close your eyes and imagine Joan Rivers there. Are you confused? Yeah, me too. Crass meets class. Well, word's out that Joan is skipping town. Her 76-acre country estate in Litchfield County is on the market for $6.5 million just weeks after her $25 million New York City penthouse apartment was listed. There's no word on bankruptcy and the alleged impetus is her desire to be closer to mini-me daughter, Melissa.

UPDATE FROM THE EDITORS
Hey ShelterPop readers, we hear you! Many of you guys are big Joan Rivers fans and it seems that we offended you with our critique of the professional critic's home. Fair enough. So, please tell us what you love about her home. Comment below and the best captions will be posted.

Oh please, whine and cry all you want. Even the Bible says, "The poor shall always be with us." It's still nice to peek into their lives, and dream...

Met Joan twice in Vegas. Both times sat in the next booth to her at weekend brunch at the Plaza. Do not bother celebs unless spoken to first. Had a very nice conversation with her. Six months later saw her and sat right next to her again in the same booth. She remembered the first time believe it or not. A most beautiful, charming lady.

I met Joan Rivers before she had all the work done, and I was living in NYC. She was at a booking signing, "The Secret Life of Amy Abramowitz" Even then she was warm, caring, funny, accessible, and a very affectionate person, not the crass big-mouth we see on stage... that is an act. When female comedians were making it in showbusiness, you were two things, either raunchy or racist. The women like Eartha Butt, Phyllis Diller, and Joan Rivers all came from the "just to the edge" raunchiness that remains today in their acts. It;s nice to see the human side of Joan, away from the glitz... looks like a normal house to me.

Joan Rivers has a great interior deigner.I personally think the author and the negative people suffer. from 'design envy' and a serious case of 'I can only afford Ikea'.Poor people..lol.And the NYC penthouse is amazing..Gotta love it.......

Always admired Joan Rivers - she made it in comedy - a hard business for anyone and especially for women back when she was up and coming. She also has had her share of heartache. This article was just down right rude. Before the writer, whose name I don't remember and doubt I'd ever need to know, starts criticizing and making snide remarks about someone's home(s), think we should all get to look at hers and see what kind of taste she has. That way we can judge if she is an "expert" and knows what she's talking about. My guess - she doesn't. Also, the little inuendo about no word on bankruptcy yet - come on - maybe she should also do a little research on just how much cash Ms. Rivers gets on her QVC jewelry alone. And there was also the sarcastic reference to "her mini-me daughter", the "skipping town" remark and the "crass meets class" - just too many nasty comments. The trash was all in the writer's words - not Ms. River's homes. What a small person she must be.

Beautiful home....looks similar to the one in the movie CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT...wonder if the real one is close...or was it all just a set? Good luck selling this beautiful home in this economy...

The CT house is a masterpiece. I am happy to have a chance to see it. The penthouse is a style that doesn't appeal to me, but I can appreciate its beauty. It is impeccable. I love Joan Rivers. She has made me laugh since I was a kid. How can you not love someone who can do that? Bless her.

What a shame journalism is no longer a matter of unbiased reporting of the facts! I hope I'm there to see it when Joan makes Allison Mezzafonte the butt of her jokes.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW OLD SHE IS ?????? SHE HAD HER FACE, NOSE, EYELIDS, CHEEKS.....EVERYTHING LIFTED, CHANGED, TUCKED AND BOBBED SO MANY TIMES THAT ITS HARD TO IMAGINE THAT SHE MIGHT BE IN HER LATE SEVENTIES.

I like Joan Rivers. Sure, she can be quite opinionated about a few people, but she is still one of the funniest women that ever graced the planet. Allison Mezzafonte, you must be a total airhead if you do not see that in her. Maybe you're one of those ugly people that she talks about. LOL

This article is bought and paid for by Joan and so are most of the comments.

tteacherpet: Why would this be bought and paid for by her? The whole article was ugly and nasty toward her. That wouldn't accomplish anything. Joan Rivers is a great business woman. She would nto give this the time of day.

If you don't have a staff of at least six people to do the cleaning and dusting alone don't bother even looking. Yard maintenance is something else again, probably another four to six people.

While there is no proof that the economy is the real cause. This woman went from nothing to everything to nothing again. (Thanks to her husbands breakdown / health issues / suicide) Back to a successful entertainer once more. Then reinvented herself in her sixties no less, as a business woman with the most successful jewelry business on television.

I know we all wish we had her money to have problems with. But I'm close to loosing my home with zero luck on the job search. As I bet some of you are. If I had to go thru this with the world watching, reading, and talking about it. I don't think I would alive right now to even join this conversation. Someone's pain and pride is no joke. Hope you don't get kicked in the teeth like that. It's a hard road to end up on in life.
