5 Sites for Affordable Art
Categories: Decorating, Shopping, Home Decor, Design, etc
Forget big fancy galleries. The Internet has completely changed the way in which artists are able to market themselves. In the last five years, a number of websites have popped up catering to the art enthusiast on a budget. So rip down those Led Zeppelin and blacklight posters, it's finally time to grow out of your dorm room wall decor. Here are five of our fave affordable art websites:
Left: Get Excited And Make Things by Matt Jones from 20x200
Right: iSketch104 by Jorge Colombo from 20x200
1) 20x200
20x200 was founded by Jen Bekman of Jen Bekman Gallery in an effort to bring art to everyone via the Internet. Each week, 20x200 releases one photograph and one work on paper in a variety of print sizes, ranging from 200 to 2 and starting at $20, thus the name 20x200.Two recent examples are shown above.

Right: Meerkat print by berkleyillustration on Etsy
2) Etsy
Etsy, home of all things handmade, is an invaluable resource for affordable artwork. Not only do they offer buyers the opportunity to purchase prints, but also original artwork, sculpture and pottery. In addition, Etsy enables artists to sell their artwork directly to buyers.
The greatest thing about Etsy is its exposure and reach. As an emerging artist, Etsy makes it easy for artists to reach hundreds of thousands of people, including magazine editors, celebrities, and even reality TV stars. The tutorials, virtual education "labs," forums and teams are just some of the great services that Etsy offers their buyers and sellers.
Some of my favorite Etsy artists include Jenn Ski, Yellena James, and Jennifer Judd-McGee (I could go on all day!).
3) Ebay
Believe it or not, there is an enormous selection of affordable art on eBay, the oldest website in this lot. In fact, I once purchased a piece of art on eBay for $1 (no kidding!). Amidst the vintage doll collections, designer handbags, and used cell phones, there is a comprehensive art category that includes everything from digital art and paintings direct from the artist to photographs, paintings and drawings from dealers and resellers. EBay also gives buyers the fun experience of bidding on pieces.

Right: Sparkle Like a Different Girl 2007/2008 by Diana Delgado from UGallery
4) Imagekind
Imagekind is a website that offers printing services for emerging artists, one-off printing for consumers, and customized pieces for art buyers. As a buyer, you can upload your own image and print on demand or order from one of the art sellers directly. They offer a great selection of papers and canvas along with a large selection of framing options.
5) UGallery
UGallery came about when three business school grads decided that art students needed a place to showcase their art to the world, while in the process of building their careers. Therefore, art enthusiasts who desire affordable original artwork from budding young artists have a great place to shop.
The artwork on the site is budget-conscious and expertly curated. Original artwork prices range from $20 to $5000. Buy something and you'll walk away feeling like a do-gooder, since you probably helped boost a young artist's career.

Hi Jaime,
Great article. I would like to add another really wonderful online source for affordable art: http://www.DailyPainters.com . After buying 3 paintings from 3 completely different artists, all equally talented, I just started working for them!
