There's a great DIY tutorial to make these garlands at The Purl Bee. Photo: The Purl Bee
The newest trend in decor has hit the home design world by storm... er, string. The banner is no longer just for birthday and anniversary parties. These DIY decorative banners can be used in any setting, from bedrooms to patios, and at any time, seasonal or year-round!
The banner, or garland as it is often called, is the perfect addition to any textile-starved room. Rather than spicing up your summer decor by adding pillows, throws or floor rugs, try adding a garland or two to the corners of your home. You'll love the colorful addition, and the variety of patterns can spruce up any space. More importantly, they're quick and easy to change as often as you'd like!
Our favorite garlands, of course, are the ones that break the rules. Try a DIY version of these lovely Frazier and Wing pieces by cutting out different shapes and sizes with thick tissue paper and cardstock (my favorite is the Balanchine!).

If you're in need of inspiration, Sophie Cuvelier is queen of the garland. She often hangs her handmade creations en masse, creating an ethereal look of paper and twine.
And as always, Etsy offers a few pro banner shoppes that take the cake: Millalove and Wunderlust are two of our faves.
Try making one of these beautiful garlands on your own. Gather a few of your favorite fabrics, scraps and paper and let the fun begin! Try hanging your creations over a headboard, fireplace or bare corner. The possibilities are endless!

I love these too, but how long do you think it would take to actually make enough to span a room like those on the Purl Bee? I'd love to do a whole bunch for my bedroom in white, ivory and pale neutral tones.
