Alvar Aalto is one of the design greats of the middle part of the 20th century, and his iconic buildings and designs are admired around the world. His Stool 60 is among him better known furniture pieces. The Aalto Stool 60 is the perfect extra seat: It's lightweight, stackable and matches almost any interior. However, starting at $250 a piece, they're not exactly cheap.

Those of us on a budget are in luck, IKEA's Frosta stool is very clearly "inspired" by the Aalto original, but instead of $285 for the four-legged Aalto, the IKEA version costs a mere $13 a pop. That's a price a girl can learn to love -- even if it means accepting lower quality materials and assembling the stool yourself.

Steal This Idea:
If you like the look of the Aalto Stool 60 with a painted top, Door Sixteen has a great post about a Faux-Aalto FROSTA upgrade. As always, I love Anna's clever DIY ideas.
