With a glossy, jet black surface, this concrete home sticks out like a sore (and oh-so-gorgeous) thumb. Photo: Toshiyuki Yano (Nacasa & Partners, Inc.)
You may be wondering who would request such an odd building? The design was, surprisingly, created for a family of five who wanted something unique. (I'd say mission accomplished!)
The family room, kitchen and living space are actually located a meter below ground level, but receive plenty of light due to ribbon windows installed by Tanjiri. The childrens' bedrooms are located on the second floor where the tip of the pyramid meets to flood the space with light.
I love that although there is a massive amount of concrete, glass and hard surfaces, the space doesn't feel cold or stark. The light gives warmth to the entire home, making it a cozy hideaway from a busy society. Proof that rewards are plenty when you think outside of the box -- literally!

What an amazing house! I want one! Love the open light design areas. I bet a tornado would not "see" this structure. It may be perfect for where I live.
ReplyCold, Sterile and Ugly Ugly Ugly.
CONCERNING.................is the HIGH CHAIR. I suppose this brilliant "architect" plans to have his kid BOND with the CONCRETE structure. MINIMALISTIC, no warmth.
NOT IMPRESSED at all. Might be nice for a hippy restaurant.
What the hell does your lack of energy and large ass have to do with the pyramid house?
ReplyI like the originality, for sure. I do wonder if it may have a big drawback regarding security as anyone would seem to have a lot of privacy using burglary tools. A good security system seems to be of utmost necessity.
ReplyNow then, this cost how much, please?
If you live in Tornado country you may wish to seriously consider a DOME house. This provides less resistance to one of those bad boys then a pyramid house, except for an underground residence.
ReplyJust add oneway black, glass window all around each floor.
ReplyMake your live siple, but not drinking in the beadroom.
Make your live siple, but not drinking in the beadroom.
siple = simple?
live = life?
beadroom = bedroom?
close?
at least it would make sense
Why not tinted windows? They wouldn't have to be very dark to prevent rubbernecking, and still have little effect of being able to see out, like some sunglasses. Also, using tints that inhibit UV and infrared from the sun, it would also be healthier and reduce fading, etc.
ReplyAlso, I don't like being forced to use steps just to get in and out.
Since they no doubt paid plenty for the design and construction, an elevator would probably be affordable and would be a good idea, especially for handicap and elderly. And if they plan to live there the rest of their lives.

NEAT-O IDEA. I LIKE IT. UNUSUAL DESIGN CONCEPT.
ReplyGOOD USE OF SPACE. BETTER THAN A GEODESIC HOUSE.
I LIKE THE OPEN AREA ROOM. KINDA LIKE A SCREENED-IN PORCH.
I WONDER IF THE DESIGN IS PATENTED? AND IF THE BUILDER COULD/WOULD BUILD ONE IN CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.
It is unique. What about wind driven rain?
ReplyIT SEEMS THAT THE RAIN WOULD JUST FLOW DOWN. HOWEVER, YOU WOULD NEED A VERY GOOD LARGE CAPICITY DRAINAGE SYSTEM TO SIPHON OFF THE WATER IN SIDE THE BERM.
Not my style at all and I can't manage to like a thing about it.
ReplyA series of interior pictures would be appreciated. I, for one, am intrigued and would really like to see more of the interior details. Please share.
ReplyThere are more pictures. You have to click on the first picture to get to see them.
those who live in glass houses can't have sex.

It wouldn't be very practical everywhere. With temps above 100 here in Texas the outside area wouldn't be habitable during the daytime. And in hurricane prone areas along the coast glass wouldn't be a good idea either. Areas where extreme weather of any kind wouldn't make this design a good idea. However, I've visited a few places in Mexico where the weather is pretty much the same all year round and this would be a nice structure.
ReplyLmao at joycelobaido
ReplyIt's hideous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDifferent, but the story as usual is borderline misleading- it does claim interior PIC not interior pics. if you want to market a story like this it would be better to either include more pics, or not even submit it here- BHG may be a viable markeyting pub, but this strikes me as nothing but a story fragment that AOL used to fill some dead space- Sorry AOL, Not Impressed
