White is often perceived as a terrifying color (or non-color) for many of us because, well, it shows every speck of dirt. Most of us don't live on movie sets or in styled rooms. For example, my dogs jump up on the couch, sometimes it rains outside and I track in dirt, I laugh and spill a little red wine...the possible accidents are endless.

However, white can also be calming and serene, making your room feel fresh and bright. That's why I say it's time to embrace white as a valid and acceptable focal color for any room. I've got some great tips to get you over your white worries.

Slipcover your sofa and/or chairs in white. This is such an easy fix, and to think that white is actually protecting your furniture from stains and spills! Plus, you can change or wash it any time, so no worries about jumping dogs, messy kids, or accidents. For more on slipcovers, check out Laura's post.
Paint your floor white. I know this is a very scary task, but it's a great way to add a sea of white to your room, instantly making it feel much brighter. Two of my favorite white floor makeovers both come from fellow bloggers.
