Cleaning Tips
If there's a spot on your sheet or blanket, dampen, rub a little Ivory soap on it, and scrub gently with your nail brush. Sure beats having to take apart the whole bed and launder the entire ensemble!

Instead of scrubbing plastic shower curtains, just pop them in the washing machine. They come out looking brand new and you didn't have to scrub a thing!

For a clean coffee maker, run distilled white vinegar through it every now and then.

To get your windows really clean, use white vinegar in a spray bottle and scrub them with crumpled news-paper. Makes them nice and shiny and streak free.

Best cleaning tip- flip over the cushion and blame it on the husband! Just kidding -- be sure to blot stains instead of scrubbing them.

Try sprinkling some baking soda on the carpet before vacuuming. It leaves the carpet smelling fresh without the fake scent of those weird vacuum powders.

Actually if you pour hot water in the bowl, soap and water kill as many germs as anti-bacterial agents, and what's left gets flushed away.
ReplyAt dollar stores you can get an all purpose cleaner called "Awesome" in a spray bottle. It's gotten hair dye out of carpets for me, blood out of a white cotton shirt, and koolaid off of counter tops. The most it has ever cost me is 1.00 and it's never bleached anything I've used it on out. But I would test in an inconspicuous area on dark fabrics just to be safe.
Replyamen to Shere......a girl that sees power tools as more than boy toys.....I use the electric leaf blower to clean dust bunnies and lost objects out from under beds ....furniture....stove and fridge.....makes cleaning out the car quick and easy too....nothing like 220 MPH wind to move objects within easy reach of the vacuum cleaner.....LIFE IS MESSY.....bring on the power tools!....work smart ...not hard......
ReplyThanks to all for the useful tips. Instead of using an iron to get candle wax off, I use my hair blow dryer on hot setting, melting the wax, then I use paper towels to pick it up. Wax melts quickly, and is easier than the iron method.
Replystinky towels can be washed with about a cup of baking soda in the washer along with your detergent....the baking soda is base ....and will neutralize the smells chemically.....not just cover them up just to return when they get damp.....works very well on pet smells as well in carpets and alike......if you have a wet smelly mess mix the baking soda with water and pour it on the smelly spot....blot or steam clean it up and when it dries the remaining powdery residue will be removed the next time you vacuum.....

ReplyMy favorite cleaning tip is for stainless steel appliances. First I wipe everything down with alcohol (which I also use to clean sinks, faucets, and tile grout), then polish with WD-40. Your appliances will sparkle like new. It is unbelievable! Even the stainless steel BBQ looks great.
ReplyI haven't seen it mentioned, so here is another tip: MICROFIBER cloths; they are inexpensive and REALLY work well for cleaning glass, even cleaning your cat/truck/SUV (IF it's not too dirty). Just remember to use it damp! Dry it's really not very good and can scratch; damp it will work wonders. Try it even on the new "plastic" TV screens. Don't have to use any chemicals. It is really a wonderful item and available almost anywhere.
