Interior designer Sue Rohrer lives and works in a 500 year-old home in Zurich, Switzerland. What was once a large barrel factory is now the apple of my eye, and I can't take my eyes away. Truly.

My favorite part of Sue's home is, hands down, the bathroom. With oversized lamps and furry chairs, I can't imagine bathing anywhere else. Take a look with me!

The Wall
I love how Sue has infused her bathroom with texture and pattern by hanging a white linen curtain on one wall. The result is a cozy, yet open space that doesn't overpower the room. Tip: Always use white when working with a small space, as a dark hue can easily make the space feel much tinier than it really is.

Lighting
Don't you love that oversized lamp on the center table? I'm in awe at how much the size plays with the room's perspective and gives lighting the attention it deserves. I'd try the Pengu table lamp from CX Design for a similar look.
Tip: On a budget? Affix an oversized shade to a table lamp you already have to re-create the aesthetic.

Seating
Seating in a bathroom is instantly luxurious when done right. In this case, faux fur is used as upholstery for these gorgeous gold-trimmed pieces. Our friends at Point Click Home love the trend as well, and I'm dying to DIY the look myself. Tip: For a more temporary look, throw a few of our favorite IKEA rugs onto your chair and footstool.

Now you've no excuse not to try the look in your own space. If you have a tiny bathroom, why not attempt this in your master bedroom, living room or dining area? Of course, you won't need the tub, but I guarantee you'll love the result!

I find that small bathrooms are one of the most fun places to use large prints and bright colors - be outrageous and have fun with the decor. You are only in the small bath for a short time so a large pattern or totally saturated or bright color or a deep color is not going to be overwhelming or give you claustrophobia- rather let it be a surprise for guests and a jolt of pleasure for the homeowner. Just be sure the lighting is ample and avoid purple because it does nothing for skin tones. Peggy Cross, A.S.I.D. Virginia Beach VA
PS I did this before design school and my clients love this approach.
