Blogger and editor Alison Hall's new blog, Ali Mode, showcases some of her thoughtful and tasteful likes in the world of decor and lifestyle. But Hall is also a big-time doer. I can't believe the gorgeousness of some super-chic custom-looking bookcases that she created from IKEA's Billy bookcases. (For more inspiration, check out Jaime's super fun post about other ideas for those budget-friendly Billys!) And what's more, Hall swears that it's super easy. Here's how she did it:

Here's What You'll Need:
-Matching bookcases
-PIlaster columns (they should be a few inches shorter than the total bookcase height)
-Crown molding (you'll need two per column and cut to the same width as the column)
-Wood glue
-Paint to match your bookcases

Here's What To Do:
1) First, Hall recommends gluing the crown molding to the pilaster columns
(she also suggests using MDF columns instead of wood -- your total cost will come in much lower)
2) Allow the glue to dry and paint the entire piece
3) Adhere the column with molding to the bookcase with wood glue making sure that the flat back part of the column faces the flat parts where the two bookcases meet
4) Allow the glue to dry and presto, you're done!
