I often ogle the homes of Brad and Angelina and their brood of six as they jet-set around the world filming high profile movies. They're supposedly spending the summer on the North Shore of Long Island just outside of Manhattan, and locals are reporting seeing them everywhere from bagel shops to the supermarket. They're allegedly renting Rupert Murdoch's home on Centre Island.

But word is out that the family may have finally settled on a home of their own. According to The Mirror, the couple just wrote a whopping check for 35 million pounds (about $58 million) -- for a 35 bedroom (YES, 35 BEDROOM!), 1,000 acre estate in Provence. (Sigh! To be beautiful and to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world!)

Apparently, the golden couple plans to spend a bundle more renovating the 17th-century chateau, called Chateau Miraval, making many of the rooms more modern. Mr. and Mrs. Glitz also plan to add a new gym, a wine bar, a jacuzzi, steamroom and spa, as well as a motorbike track for Brad (and Maddox, Pax and Knox, of course). They'd been renting the house for the last year.

It's not surprising that they chose the south of France as their home base. Angelina's mother was French Canadian, and Brad has said that their children are able to lead a more normal life there. Now he just has to learn the language -- Apparently, the actor is struggling with capturing that certain je ne sais quoi.

A local developer told The Mirror, "They want to make sure this very romantic property becomes the love nest of all love nests."

Sure could build a lot of homes for the down & out in New Orleans Louisiana for this kind of money.

He has spent tons of his own money in New Orleans! Does that somehow mean he can't also spend some of it on himself? How much of YOUR money goes to people in need?

  • Laur

you can't expect them to single handedly build all the houses in New Orleans. Just because you are rich, doesn't mean you have to rid the world of poverty. when was the last time you volunteered or gave money to a charity?

  • d.

Why are these two people responsible to build homes in New Orleans? If they are held accountable then where is your share? or any of the other actors, directors, business people etc.? Just because they have money does not obligate them to do whatever people in society want them to do with it, it's THEIRS just as the money you make is YOURS. Not to mention they already donate millions more then most of hollywoods elite. Personally, I think that it is stupid to rebuild in New Orleans where it is below sea level and asking for mother nature to take over once again.

I hope it's "green," because most Hollywood types are all about saving energy.....

  • AMY

You're right and who needs a 35 bedroom house...They don't have that many kids.

  • Jodie

This/ They are PATHETIC!!! What do they need with this size of a house??

It was just about four months ago Mr Brad Pitt walked into President Obamas office , spoke to him and walked out with Millions of dollars of the tax payers money in the United States of America and now the Country of France will benefit from all our money , not us. Sure he is building a few homes in New Orleans but he is also the Mortgage holder of those loans and stands to make millions more from those transactions. Don't you people realise that is why they want kids in each country so they can start a non-profit foundation in each childs name to be eligible for more free grant money from us and every other country in the world , which is called Philanthropy! They are like Wal Mart, even if they never work again on Plantet earth , millions of dollars from tax payers will go into their foundations simply by asking for it to go green or some other mission they can think of. Wal Mart has about ten foundations and numerous government contracts. If they never sell another thing to their customers they will still make millions everyday off us by giving away wic for children ( which is a government contract between them and the Agricultural Department of the good old USA which is tax payers money. Brad & Angelina only adopted the children so they could set up their plans plus the tax payers in America pay the $58.00 per day per child for their up keep plus free traveling, insurance and too many numerous other free things to name here. It is the game of life for all stars in America. Learn how to do what they are doing to get rich too. Also Angelina is the Ambassador for the USA for France which makes her eligible for millions. How do all of you like the Homes in all these countries our tax dollars are being spent on now?

  • mike

After already spending millions of their own dollars on the homeless in Louisiana, on food, and building homes, and also giving more than any entertainer, how dare they spend some of their own money on themselves.......we love you jolie and pitt.. enjoy your new house.

    Hey "d",

Still buying into the myths about New Orleans? Contrary to the popular fairy tale that the city is a giant bowl 18 ft below sea level - over half of the city is ABOVE sea level. Some of the worst flooded areas were ABOVE sea level. The levees were supposed to hold back the lake when storms raised sea level - which is what happened in Katrina. Unfortunately, the US Army Corps of Engineers screwed New Orleans and ALL taxpayers through poor engineering. They have ADMITTED to being the cause of the flooding.

Also, many people mistakenly believe that New Orleans is on the coast. It is 100 MILES INLAND from the Gulf of Mexico. And is rebuilding New Orleans any more stupid than rebuilding Oakland, San Francisco, etc., after the earthquakes? After all, they sit on a known fault line. Is rebuilding New Orleans any more stupid than rebuilding the cities in Iowa that flood every other year? Is rebuilding New Orleans any more stupid than rebuilding cities in Kansas that get hit every couple of years by tornados?

I had the honor of meeting Brad Pitt in New Orleans. He is a genuine, caring person and incredibly hard working. I do not begrudge him a 35 bedroom house - or 10 of them if he wants them!

yeah they could spend all their hard earned money bailing out african americans who either were too lazy to move or didnt watn to lose touch with their dope dealer and wound up losing everything. OR they could spend their money how they like and live a fairy tale life very much in love with each other and their family in a gorgeous chateau in france. There is always somebody saying weeeeeellll they should be spending it it THIS or THAT person or cause.. Tell you what clown. go get job besides the gas station or pay day loan place you work at now, become rich and famous, then then you can siphen all your money into the poor and indigent. Then at will absolutely your choice. Until then, you cant accuse anybody of not doing enough. And to accuse those two who are probably the most famous philanthropist couple in the world besides Bill and Melinda Gates. You go brad, Went to the same school as you bud, I was a bit younger so didnt meet. Go snatch your dream my man, go snatch it. If you havent already. Because3 in my eyes my friend..... You have won the game. You both have. All the guys are glad you are with Ang, the bitter girls will be angry because you are not with jen. But honestly since when do we listen to women...Ha! Ha! Honestly. God Bless

  • Debra

How much money have you given to help the people who lost their homes due to the shoddy work of the Army Core of Engineers?

Brad and Angie did not spend $58 million for this estate.

I don't blame them for wanting to live part-time where they can have some peace. Their children were in danger from overzealous paparazzi who were constantly scaling the walls around their home in LA and Malibu. It scared the children, and the couple could not move without being STALKED.

No one should have to live like that. NO ONE!

Old estates like this one usually have small rooms. I believe their plan is to knock down some walls and make the rooms larger. Brad loves architecture so I'm sure he will enjoy this.

I hope they have a wonderful time renovating this beautiful estate, and I hope they find PEACE here.....finally.

Wonder why you complainers never said anything about George Clooney or Robert DeNiro purchasing estates in France? I'm sure there are many others that live there besides Bono, etc.

    Thou shalt not covet....

  • Pete

Why don't you take YOUR hard earned money and give it to them?

  • Graydonpow

They worked for it. To the victors go the spoils.

  • boobetty

awwww....how I was hoping they'd raise those kids in the Lower Ninth Ward....an historical section of New Orleans.

  • Pat Lukes

Seriously, Brad Pitt has single handedly done more for the rebuilding in New Orleans through his foundations than anyone else. Are you implying that he needs to pay for the entire rebuilding himself? What planet are you from?

  • Cy

    No kidding. Disgusting celebrity hippocrites!!!
All of them should be taxed at the rate of about 80%, pro athletes too. That should solve the deficit problem.
Maybe then they would feel our pain about this socialism that the government is trying to force on average Americans.
But you know that will never happen, Pitt-Jolie, Oprah, etc. have their tax lawyers who know all the loopholes and this trillion dollars stimulus nightmare will be dumped in the laps of the middle class. AS USUAL.

  • NANCY

WHY WOULD YOU EVEN MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THAT? HOW IS IT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE CARE OF ANYONE OTHER THAN THEIR OWN FAMILIES? JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE A LOT OF MONEY , DON'T THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO KEEP IT AND SPEND IT HOW THEY WANT?
