But word is out that the family may have finally settled on a home of their own. According to The Mirror, the couple just wrote a whopping check for 35 million pounds (about $58 million) -- for a 35 bedroom (YES, 35 BEDROOM!), 1,000 acre estate in Provence. (Sigh! To be beautiful and to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world!)
Apparently, the golden couple plans to spend a bundle more renovating the 17th-century chateau, called Chateau Miraval, making many of the rooms more modern. Mr. and Mrs. Glitz also plan to add a new gym, a wine bar, a jacuzzi, steamroom and spa, as well as a motorbike track for Brad (and Maddox, Pax and Knox, of course). They'd been renting the house for the last year.
It's not surprising that they chose the south of France as their home base. Angelina's mother was French Canadian, and Brad has said that their children are able to lead a more normal life there. Now he just has to learn the language -- Apparently, the actor is struggling with capturing that certain je ne sais quoi.
A local developer told The Mirror, "They want to make sure this very romantic property becomes the love nest of all love nests."
The Jolie-Pitt French Estate
The Chateau Miraval in Provence, France, which Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had been renting and have reportedly just purchased for $58 million.
According to rumors, Brad and Angelina plan to spend tens of millions of dollars on renovations.
The 35-bedroom home sits on a 1,000-acre estate.
The grounds of Chateau Miraval include 20 fountains and 13 varieties of olive trees.
How's this for a street address?

Reader comments (Page 5 of 8)
You don't like them, that's your right. Don't read the stories about them and then you won't have to make ignorant comments.
ReplyI'm not their biggest fans, either, but I respect the fact that Brad is extremelly active in humanitarian causes around the world, including the fight against AIDS in Africa, helping to organize and contribute millions in aid to survivors of the earthquake in Pakistan, the publicizing and raising money for the poor in Darfur and Chad, contributing to Doctors without Borders, not to mention the 150 homes rebuilt in the Ninth Ward in New Orleans (that's more than FEMA has finished). Between he and Angelina, just last year alone, their monetary contributions to charities was more than $15 million dollars. That's a lot of charity, and more than most of the richest people in the world contribute! That doesn't include the fact that they pay their own way when they go to these countries, unlike our government representatives! The UN High Commissioner for Refugees appointed Angelina as a Goodwill Ambassador, where she also pays her own way, even though that travel is normally covered by the UN. In 2003, she was the first recipient of the newly created Citizen of the World Award by the United Nations Correspondents.
They bought a chateau in France. French architecture is not like our little cookie cutter homes here...the house dates back over 100 years, when one had servants and extended families living in one home -- the reason for the 35 bedrooms. I don't blame them for buying in France...there they can have closer to a more normal life than here in the states where they are constantly stalked by the media. In France, the laws were strengthened after the death of Princess Diana to protect those being stalked.
By the way, if some of you spent 1/1000th the time and money that Brad and Angelina do on humanitarian causes, this world would be a better place.
The envy and hatred coming from the people posting here must be painful, for those people around them, who must endure it in person. I have never seen so many people filled with so much vile hatred in my 70 plus years of life. I feel that Brad and Anglina chose the AREA they chose, precisely to get away from the likes of these pathetic losers who won't take the initiative to do something for themselves, but are happy to lay back and criticize the accomplishments of others. I wouldn't be surprised if the couple DOES fill all those rooms with children. If I had the money, I know I would enjoy doing so.
ReplyWell said....
Its not so much that they purchased this fantastic, expensive home, its that they both profess to be concerned about the environment and have a certain amount of popularity and political influence. I commend Brad for exersizing free speach and dedicating a portion of his vast wealth to actually being involved in bringing social and environmental issues to the forefront. What I resent is the apparent disregard for his own impact on the planet. I don't hold enjoying the fruits of their labor against either of them, but I now question his integrity when he promotes his views on social and environmental issues. I would hope that some of the renovations mentioned in the article will increase the efficiency of their new home and reduce the impact it has on the environment.
ReplySuch immature, egocentric, hypocrites!! Both are B- actors whose bodies have carried them in the past but watch what happens to their careers as they age. And what about all that gobblety gook about global warming?? Just as two faced and ignorant as Al Gore. They are such poor role models for children. Boycott their movies and publications that glamorize them. And oh yes, does setting themselves up as French residents mean they avoid income taxes in California???
ReplyNo, this won't exempt them from paying taxes in the US. They can own a residence in lots of countries, but they still live and work in the US and have to pay taxes here. It just means that they will now also have taxes that will be paid to France, and to any other country in which they own property.
If G W Bush had not nixed and diverted the money that had been requested to fix and replace the pumping stations and levees in New Orleans, the homes in New Orleans wouldn't need to be rebuilt. Thank God for people like this young couple who have empathy for others, and actually DO SOMETHING TO HELP. Bush didn't seem to care who he hurt to get what he wanted, nor did he care even after the damage he was responsible for was done. The hatred coming from those on these blogs show that his followers are JUST AS BAD AS BUSH IS.
ReplyGee whiz, I doubt that 35 rooms will be enough for all the kids, nannies, secretaries, chauffeurs, gofers, cooks, housekeepers, laundresses, gardeners, real estate agents, lawyers, etc.
ReplyI think Brad and Angelina are going to be happy there. They can have Hollywood movie guests and not be cramped in a home. It's like they are buying a bed and breakfast. A small hotel.
ReplyGood Luck!! Looks nice and I know you will have a fun time there!

He spent money in New Orleans as a tax right off for his extravagant lifestyle...wake up people! These two are nothing more than "POT HEADS"! Their careers won't last forever cuz neither can act...they should be putting as much money now away for their early retirement. GOD save us all!
Replyfor people that dont know how to act...they sure make enough money...how much do you donate to the less fortunate...right....
Good, it's in France so that'll keep them far, far away.
ReplyHOW SWEET IT IS AND WHO THE HELL CARES????? NO ONE NEEDS A HOUSE THAT BIG-------- 2 KIDS OR 15, JUST A WASTE OF MONEY THAT COULD HELP STRAVING KIDS IN AMERICA. HOPE THEY READ THIS
ReplyAnd he admitted to being a pot head...gave it up for his kids...hahahahaha...said it turned him into a doughnut...hahahaha! Got news for you PITT...its tooooooooo late...you are a DOUGHNUT HOLE! Anyhoo...she walked the carpet with her tongue down her brothers mouth and Billy Bob Thortons mouth...amongst other crazy...sick antics and attention seeking actions. And suddenly she adopts a couple of kids and she's a SAINT? omg....when are people gonna smarten up! Fact...he's a cheating DONUT HOLE...and she's a PSYCHO WHAKO TRAMP with drug issues as well! Neither can ACT! BOYCOTT the phonies...then we'll see some real change!
Replyyea....they live in France and we pay for it! wonder whats wrong with the economy? the money goes out but doesn't come back...and for the millions that both of them take from the "American Consumer" they are contributing to the economic crisis today. believe me their charity donations in this country are peanuts compared to what they are dishing out around the world! PLZZZZZZZZZZ stop being enablers...we need to set celebrities like these two straight...they're not worth any of it!
ReplyCongratulations! Your children truly deserve to live a normal life away from the paparazzi hungry to make monies irrespective of the kids welfare. You deserve peace too for your humanitarian kindness. This reminds me of Johnny when he decided to give his own family the privacy they need.
ReplyI guess that everyone has forgot about Sean Penn going to New Orleans for publicity saving a couple of people. I don't think he has been back since. A lot of these actors/actess all talk a bunch of s?&!? about helping other people but they never do anything but pat each other on the back at award shows. These awards and parties they give to each other could probably rebuild all the homes in New Orleans, but I don't see any of them doing anything.
ReplyHATS OFF FOR BRAD AND ANGIE!
Can't wait to see how she re-invents herself again! Don't bar codes expire? hahahaha! hummmmmmmstay tuned folks...we all know...you can't keep up a LIE. eventually...the truth comes out and all is known. BOMB? yea she's a time bomb! I dunno...someone on here said she was a bomb...hahahaha! some men like trash...the trashier the better...it works on their imaginations...what little ones they have...somebody stop me...hahahaha! enjoy and have fun...we don't live forever.
ReplyGreat!! they deserve their privacy and so do the kids!! They give so much back to the world community & American--BRAVO!! God Bless them and God Bless America!!
ReplyWhat I don't quite understand is...why buy a great old historic mansion and then "modernize" and renovate it? It seems to me if they are spending 58 million dollars to buy it and are planning on spending 10's of millions of dollars more to renovate it, why not just take the 100 million dollars or so, find land with the vineyards, trees, etc. etc. that they like and build to their own specifications? It just seems somewhat gauche to "modernize" a "dream home" such as this one. Let's hope they use good taste in doing so and don't compromise the "character" of the home or the property.
