Take those samples and put them to good use! Photo: Kelly+Olive
1) Cut them in strips and fasten them to wooden stairs as stair treads. This is a great solution for unsafe stairs, and they're much more attractive than rubber treads and less expensive than buying designer treads, like these from Liza Phillips.
2) Use sample tiles as coasters. Since they're already small and square, they're shaped just right to be used as coasters. This DIY isn't much of a DIY at all! Just place them on your table and voila!
3) Use them as a trivet. Place four together and fasten them with tape or another type of adhesive and create a large trivet for pots and dishes.
4) Dog food placemat. Leave it to Kelly+Olive to come up with a fantastic solution for their FLOR sample tiles. They cleverly pieced them together to create a cute puppy food mat. Now, my dogs are very sloppy and I think they'd require a few more tiles, but you get the gist.
5) Make a doormat. Much like the placemat above, you can also create larger pieces, like this doormat made by Wes and Kayla Schwartz.
6) Make a bulletin board. Cool! Gather a few sample tiles together (or take one large tile) and place on a wall, throw some thumbtacks on there, and you've got a fully functioning bulletin board.
And, if that isn't enough inspiration for you, check out what the winners of Ample Sample's 2008 carpet tile competition did with their extra pieces!

Those are some good ideas. I'm sure you know but since you didn't mention it, I'll let other readers in on the skinny: you can send FLOR your used tiles and they will recycle them into new products. Not a DIY project but one more way to be eco-conscious!
