We dream big on ShelterPop. We're always pining over some drool-worthy decor or a home that makes our hearts go pitter-pat. Well, I've got a treat for you. You no longer have to dream -- and neither do I.
A California non-profit is raffling off this modern (and sprawling) seven-bedroom house in Oakland Hills. Hello, views! You can see five bridges from the 9,000 square-foot space, and the inside is wide-open and stunning. I just want to see the indoor and outdoor waterfalls!
Best of all? You'll be doing a good deed. The "Dream Big Raffle" will benefit several community-based programs, including a youth violence prevention and youth mentoring project. To pull it off, the nonprofit has to sell 49,500 tickets at $175 a pop. (Buy yours before August 30 and get two for the price of one.) Otherwise, winners will get a portion of total sales. The grand prize drawing is scheduled for Oct. 26.

Floor-to-ceiling, electronically-controlled windows with ocean views? Yes please!
Bored with the view? Not likely, but you could amuse yourself with the built-in sound system or home theater.
The house manages an open floor plan without feeling empty or cold.
Nearly every room has sweeping panoramic views.
Go ahead--cook something decadent. You can always work it off in the fitness room.
The 9,000-square-foot home boasts seven bedrooms.
This is just one of the house's--gulp!--seven full and two half bathrooms.
Oh, to have a spiral staircase. It makes us dizzy with delight.
Crash the neighborhood in Oakland Hills, CA for the price of a raffle ticket.

The winner will probably lose the house to the government because taxes on this property will be unaffordable to 95 % of the US population
Replytaxes would be approx 175,000 a year! $14580.00 a month...
I agree with Shawn. With the economic condition of CA, you would need someone like Brad and Angelina to rent it to pay those taxes for you! Better yet, maybe George Clooney. No kids running around!
ReplyIt's ugly, with ugly furniture. What's with all the white walls? Too much cleaning. I'll keep my 175$ and spend it on my grandkids. Also to much walking to get from 1 room to another. RAZZY
ReplyYou might want to consider, this house was decorated by architects and designers, not some of your buds from the trailer park.
This house is for certain not everyone's taste, but it is AWESOME!
I would be afraid I might win it.
ReplyIf I had a house like this, I would think I died and went to heaven! Maybe I just won the lottery, will have to check that b/c if I did.. I'd for sure own a house similar to this one. hey, can't a girl dream??!!
ReplyHow much would the taxes be on a house like this if you won it $2M?
ReplyMaybe it would be worth more if the "Governor" signed it!
ReplyWrong coast. If it was a house on the Atlantic I would buy a ticket.
ReplyThe house is beautiful but I would not want to live in CA. I am a widow with 2 children my husband died a year ago at the age of 44 of a massive heart attack in front of my 11 year old son. So the i would rather put the $175.00 toward the heart association so no other person has to go thru what I am going thru now living pay check to paycheck. And if the $175 saves one life it is worth it.
ReplyI feel for you. Are you located on the east coast. A new friend is always good to have. God Bless you and your children.
Win even bigger. Donate to a worthy cause.
ReplyThe Jacaranda school in Malawi for Aids Orphans. 320 some attending school in my childhood home.
I provide free secondary and primary, schooling, free food, school supplies, uniforms, and have even sent our first five to college, everything paid for from small donations I receive.
I am a nanny. Believe me $175 that you would put towards this house, will go a long way and make a difference in not one, but many children's lives. www.jacarandafoundaton.org
I would rather donate my money right here in the good ol U.S.A., foriegn countries are getting too much of our money and we are shipping our jobs overseas, so the hell with the foriegn countries, we need help here...
YOU ARE SO RIGHT_THE WHOLE PURPOSE IS FOR THE CHILDREN;THE HOUSE WOULD JUST BE A BONUS;GOD BLESS ALL THE CHILDREN
I don't know why you need to sell 49,500 tickets at 175 apiece. That adds up to 8,662,500.00 for a 4.2 mil house. Giv us break! Yu should try to seel it at a small profie not 100%
ReplyAccutally, they are trying to sell 110.000 tickets.
I say let the non-profit either keep the house or sell it themselves. To raffle this house for 175 bucks a ticket is a really sick and cruel joke because who ever wins this house has to pay taxes on the 4 million up front! Just like winning the lottery. So if you win this house you better have a few million to pay uncle sam up front. Sounds to me like they are using the lure of this house to make some money.
ReplyPS. They will not sell enough tickets to raffle the house and so the winner will then receive a part of the money collected. The non-profit keeps the rest of the money which is what they intended all along. I say stay away from this one....
i would get lost in a house that big, i live in a 2 bedroom apartment.
ReplyThe title of the article calls this house a "Beach House". The house is located at 4616 Rockingham Ct in Oakland, in the foothills overlooking Oakland - nowhere near any beaches. Sorry, but I consider a "Beach House" to be a house on the beach. Duh. Stupid misleading title.
