I'd venture to say that vacuuming is probably the least ergonomic chore I can think of. So when Eureka released an ergonomic vacuum cleaner, I'll admit -- I had my doubts. Of course, I'm never one to judge a book by its cover, so when Eureka offered a two-week trial period, I gladly accepted.

Not knowing what to expect, the package arrived at just under fifteen pounds and I was astonished at its weight. How can a 15-pound vacuum be ergonomically-correct? I'm used to my trusty 8-pounder, and couldn't imagine lugging around something twice its weight.

I immediately got to work in our living room, which is the dustier than the Sahara. I was impressed, yes, but there were a few downfalls as well. Let me break it down for you:

PROS:
1) The comfort-gripped oval handle was very nice. A tiny enhancement that made a big difference, as my hands weren't sore or blistered the rest of the afternoon.

2) The sheer power of the vacuum was insanely good. I vacuum every week, and after hitting the living room and dining room, I had to clean out the HEPA filter because it was full!

3) Cleaning out the filter was a breeze, and I'm always a fan of bagless vacuums.

4) The Comfort Clean has a retractable cord, making it easy to switch outlets when moving from room to room.

CONS:
1) I wouldn't call the vacuum ergonomic. It was heavy, and the powerful suction from the vacuum left me fighting to control the movements.

2) After cleaning my bathroom rugs, I smelled burnt rubber from the carpet liner. Turns out I had the vacuum on a low-carpet setting without realizing. Eek!

3) Retractable cord was a bit unnecessary, as the cord was of average length and I still had to move outlets often. Overall, I'd give the $139.99 Comfort Clean 4 suction stars out of 5 for power, efficiency and ease. But if you're looking for an ergonomic model, look elsewhere.
