Bernard Madoff once lived the high life of a billionaire investor, with homes in Manhattan, Long Island and Palm Beach. Now he's serving 150 years in prison for defrauding investors in a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme and making his home in a 7.5' x 8' cell.

This week, you can buy a chunk of Madoff's former fortune. That is, if you can afford it. His oceanfront vacation property in Montauk, a summer paradise on the eastern tip of Long Island, is going on sale for $8.75 million. Also going up for auction: the house's contents, including everything from artwork to an exercise bike to Ruth Madoff's shoes. Any bidders?

Federal authorities seized the Montauk home, the Madoffs' $7 million duplex in Manhattan and a waterfront residence in Palm Beach worth $11 million in early July with the intention of selling them and using profits to repay his victims. Those homes will go on sale in the coming months.

Compared to nearby homes owned by the likes of Robert DeNiro and Ralph Lauren, Madoff's 3,000-square-foot, 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom beach house, isn't luxurious. But it boasts remarkable ocean views and is just 150 feet from the beach, a distance not allowed by newer zoning laws.

Lol. The ocean views are awesome, but that house is butt ugly. Walk around that house at night and get impaled by a sharp corner of some trapezoidal table. The article says you get the house and everything in it for nearly 9 million. Then they take that back by saying that shabby-chique cow will also be auctioned. Then what's left? The filthy matress and maple dining room table? What, no Picasos?

Good eye hardnosed, I didn't notice that there were once things on the wall as I browsed the pics. Maybe the pics/art were moved to a central location for the ease of viewing them pre-auction and auctioning them. I wouldn't mind owning a home as nice as that, but I haven't figured out any legal or illegal scams yet!

Wow this guy live like a king on other peoples money. he never invested dime. How could regulators, registed CPA's etc. not audit this theif. I find it amazing. The govt could find 25 cent mistake on my tax return. but they couldn't see billions I could see if it was 10-20 million but billions. Hurrah Bernie you stole from the rich and elderly and fooled the regulators. We dont need socialism we need responsible peole with a govt that has adequate reguation over any manager of assets. they have been doing it to banks for years and the bad ones just failed but didn't steal like a common theif. shame on the us politicians. they are no better than madoff.

After looking at those pictures, I don't even like that place AT ALL - it's definitely not my taste! A friend of mine had a house in East Hampton that didn't cost anywhere NEAR $8 MIL and it was WAY nicer than Madoff's place! Anyway, I hope he's enjoying himself in PRISON - that is where he belongs!!!
