These days, people are looking to stretch their dollar as far as it can go. One great way to make your cash go further is to invest in some multifunctional furniture, like those pet beds I posted about a while back. Furniture that takes on additional function can not only save you money, but also time and space, all things we've got less of these days. Just imagine needing an end table and computer storage or a mag rack end table bar (yes, it is possible!) and being able to get it in one simple piece. Here are a few of my favorite double duty pieces.

space-saving storage end tables

Anyone for a magazine and a drink?

The Brooklyn End Table (left), $129, at Modernfurniture.com doubles as mag storage and triples as a minibar! This table (right) from Officefurniture.com has a built-in laptop storage, $289.

The Cubo Coffee Table (left) from Design Within Reach conceals a secret storage compartment, $900. The complementary coffee table (top right) to the oak end table above, $359, comes with a raised platform for working. Definitely something that is perfect for those of you who work at home. The Scando Table (bottom right) is a great coffee table with a built-in magazine rack, Hive Modern, $499.

Bunk beds that morph into a sofa -- pretty space-age, huh? Photos: Resource Furniture

And last, but not least, this impressive sofa-turned-into-bunkbeds available at Resource Furniture, $4,995 to $7,425, depending on fabric.

The Scando table is pretty ugly; I wouldn't buy it for $49.99.
