Debbie Gibson Sells Her Home Just In Time To Avoid Foreclosure

Gibson, seen here last May, just sold her home for a big loss. Photo: Valerie Macon, Getty Images
Onetime pop-star Debbie (ahem, Deborah) Gibson just sold her home in the Hollywood Hills for $900,000, according to Big Time Listings--$375,000 less than she paid for it in 2005. Ouch! But she sold it just in time, says the Real Estalker; she had been under the threat of foreclosure since January 2009, when a "notice of default" was filed on the property. (Gibson's rep denies it.)
The 1,700-square-foot, 2-bedroom, 2-bath house includes a front yard, back yard, wood floors throughout, fireplace and, strangely, a urinal. There's also a mirrored piano, but Gibson will surely take that with her.
Check out the modest home in the gallery below. Judging by these photos, Gibson never shelled out for a professional decorator.

Where are prices like that. Here in TX I have a 2800 sq ft home on 2 lots, 6 car garage, 4 br 3 bath, formal dining room, 2 living areas, basement in addition to the 2800 sq ft and a laundry room as big as her spare bedroom, plus an office attached to garage, huge yard with sprinkler system, and our appraisal district has it at $225,000. Why would someone pay $900,000 for a 2 BR cottage when they could move to TX and live in style.

Uh.....because it's CALIFORNIA??? People love to dis Calif. but it seems everyone wants to live there, so yeah..... small homes in LA or OC counties can easily cost 500,000 to $1M. Comparing Texas, Florida, Nevada, Ariz., or anywhere else is irrelevant. I own a home in Arizona and am also 4th generation to "the OC"...and I wish half of these tourist-celeb-nouveau-residents would go back to where they came from!

Because most of Texas is a DUMP and hicksville and no one wants to live there! I live in Boston, not Cali by the way. I wouldn't live in Cali either.

OMG, Judy! I also live in TX and I'm telling you, that's not exactly how it works all across the state. You must live down in the piney woods somewhere, or another obscure location. I agree Calif prices are way out of whack, but prices around north Dallas are also outrageous.
ThisIsNuts! 9-09-2009 @ 5:50PM
Oh and Teri - you are an idiot if you think Texas is a DUMP. Wait, you just go on believing that and stay up there in your Yankee world. I've never been keen on ANY thing you people in Mass seem to enjoy. Case-in-point.... Ted Kennedy.

my family and I were chased down by men in a pickup when I was 4 years old in Texas. I'll never forget it and that is why i would never live

I always knew she was an airhead, she paid way too much for that hole in the wall and whoever bought it is really stupid.$900,000 for that piece of crap thats insanity.

Its called location that commands that price not the house.

Soon capitalism will be down the toilet, discarded in favor of good old fashioned Obama/Reed/Pelosi socialism and these hollywood types will be stripped of their wealth. We won't be treated to pablum puking mewling over forclosures any more and Texans will have to give up their elite lifestyles and live in ghettos like real folks.

Way to kick a person when they're doewn, AOL.
This is shoddy, shabby, low class journalism.
Obviously the poor woman didn't have the money
to fix it up more and now has lost her home at a
loss. I don't believe in kicking people when they're
down in order to make a buck. Shame on all of you.
It's just wrong.

Perhaps she's a 'down to earth' simple living person; you know- REAL

As a teen star Debbie was the Britney Spears of her day, but without any of those horrible excesses. She was fortunate to have a supportive family on Long Island that nurtured her talent while she went to a regular public high school. In recent years she has pursued her passion on the Broadway stage.
This is a cute and cozy little house that, like most, reflects the personality and priorities of its owner. In California, so many homes bear a continual risk of damage from earthquakes, landslides, or wildfires to some degree. Is it really worth tying up such a high percentage of your material wealth in an environment of such volatility?
Fame and fortune can be so very fleeting. I feel badly for Debbie having to sell her house (I'm struggling to hold onto mine at present), but know that she will be able to gracefully move beyond this setback. I wish my best to her and to her property's new owners.

I think it looks comfy, homey, and lived in. It obviously is what made her happy, not over done or over the top with a lot of "stuff" for other people to look at. She was surrounded by what she liked. I bet a person would be more comfortable in her home than some of the millionaire types that live in luxury where you can't touch the goods or wouldn't feel like you could sit on the furniture.

That house just needs some TLC. So does she, by the way her house and grounds appear....Her freinds should have been intuitive enough to help her out if her mind was elsewhere. I hope she climbs out and .....FLIES....she will have another house big deal.

Actually I like it.It looks like a home that would be comfortable to live in.I wish I could help her out but unfortunately I have my own debts.I don't know what her financial situation is and it's none of my business.I also don't know her family situation.Does she have any kids?Is she married? If she lives alone how big of a house does she need?If she likes it thats the only thing that matters.Too bad she had to sell it at a loss but a lot of people are not even able to do that.
BTW where are all the hollywood people who are so giving?Seems to me they are mia unless there is a way it will benefit them.

BJ, What you said about her "could" have been the reason for her not decorating if it weren't for the fact that she couldn't pay for the house and lost it and not only that had to sell it at a loss. It's really obvious that her decorating was not because she's "real" it was because she didn't have the money.
