power cords

Small to mid gauge extension cords used indoors for lamps and light duty electronic equipment can all be wrapped elbow to hand easily and then tied off with a velcro strap. This is the best way to store cords so they are ready for use and won't get kinked or twisted.

Heavier gauge power cables that are more than 20 feet in length will twist and get kinked if you tie them too tightly, and after years of use, they can become a hazard if they fray. The following technique allows the cord to be stored neatly and without damage. It also doesn't require a velcro or plastic strap.

1. Halve the cable and drape the male and female ends in your palm. Continue to drape the double line in your hand with about 1-2 feet per drape.

2. With about 2 feet left, wrap the remaining end of the cable around the bunch.

3. Then loop it through the bunch -- This will leave you with a natural hook to hang your cable from which keeps it off the ground and in an easy to reach place on your wall.
