...think again. I'm here for a few days to take in all 5 million square feet of the biannual Las Vegas Market, a trade show featuring the newest in home furnishings. (I've only seen one dogs-playing-poker print so far.)
It's impossible to overlook the design of Las Vegas itself, though. According to the city's tourism bureau, 17 of the country's 20 largest hotels are here. Each and every one has a distinct theme, but they all share one common detail: fantastically awful carpeting. Thankfully, tourists are usually looking skyward, at massive faux-Greek statues at Caesar's, at a replica of the Statue of Liberty at the New York New York Casino, at ceilings painted like blue skies at The Venetian. But in Vegas, even what's underfoot is over the top. Click through the gallery to see some of the city's crassest carpets.
Las Vegas Carpets
At Casino Royale. It might as well be called "The 80s Rule Hotel and Casino." Scrunchies welcome.
At Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon. This rose pattern needs to go the way of actual old west saloons.
At the New York New York Hotel and Casino. The carpet somehow reminds me of a 1,000-piece puzzle. It's every bit as perplexing.
At Harrah's. It's got a real Georgia O'Keeffe quality to it, don't you think?
At the Paris Las Vegas. My notes refer to this carpet as "Van Gogh blobs."
At Bally's. Actually, I kind of like this one. It reminds me of the Cheshire Cat.
At the Palazzo. This elegant pattern just doesn't fit in with the Wheel of Fortune slots.
At the MGM Grand. Look closely inside the circle for a lion's head, the logo of the hotel.
At the Flamingo. Regal? Or revolting?
At Planet Hollywood. It's hip to be square?

Carpets are nasty! They hold more germs and filth then anyone wants to know. I wish who ever it was that had the bright idea to have these nasty things in our homes would be shot! And we all wonder why we're sick all the time!
ReplyGuess your just a dirty person then or one of those wierdos that wants tile in the living room lol...Hardwood and tile are hard to keep clean, have to be swept few times a day and mopped few times a week. if you have carpet you take your shoes off vacume with a good vacum and once a month have them steamed and santizied clean, efficient time savers that are as clean as thier owners
I live in Vegas, the carpets fit perfectly in with the casino decor. Its out on the streets of the strip that are an eyesore.
ReplyI agree, i thought this story would be about all the strip club flyers that lltter the sidewalks of vegas, not very family friendly, LOL.
being a designer in vegas has to be a breeze...if you order something in red and it arrives in green, so what, nobody will notice because every color under the sun is used in every casino!
sorry to hear that bighair, vegas sux, been there twice over the years, the 1st I fell for the hype, the 2nd a conference. disgusting.
Yet another story that I couldn't live without. Carpet in Vegas?
ReplyW H O C A R E S ?????????????????????????????
Hey..........can I get an online job doing this??????????????
ahem...if you don't care for the story, why did you read it and take the time to post? hmmmm?
LOL.... I agree, I thought it would have been something a little more interested than "bad carpet"!!! There are a lot more intersting things in Vegas to talk about! But there caption caught our attention and made us look. I LOVE Vegas and could care lees about the flooring")
Just more proof that AOL doesn't have anything better to do than to post about stupid things, like the "Carpets in Vegas." There are far more important things to write about than this.
who cares it's just carptet!!!! SO!!!!! i don't care to care that dog painting on a wall i would put that in my house i just find dang cute.
ReplyI think the weirdo carpets are all fun and all so very different. We stay at the Orleans and they have a real kooky one too. Truth is EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING that is decor in a casino is for a purpose, including the carpets. It is just of the things I love about that city.
ReplyThe reason they use carpet in the strangest designs is because they don't what you to enjoy looking down, they want you to look up and the gambleing tables
ReplyThe carpets have a crazy pattern and color; the better to cover the bloodstains!
Duh! It's an old rule. Make the ceilings in casinos so plain that no-one looks up, and the floors so loud, no-one looks down. Their idea is to keep your eyes focused on the slot machines bright lights. Splotchy patterns also help to hide stains when over-induldgence results in "accidents". Anyways, congratulations to the author. She probably convinced her boss to pay for her trip to Vegas just to complete this all-important and newsworthy study.
ReplyThe reason the carpets are designed like that is that they are patterned to make you gamble. I tell people dont look at the carpet when they go to a casino. Its not just Vegas. Every casino has crazy carpet.
ReplyThis is the type of carpet that Michelle Obama would put in the white house
ReplyLOLOL!!!!!!!!!! YEP!!!!!!!! That loser family sure would. Buck Ofama!
I'm pretty sure the Paris Las Vegas carpet is one of those magic eye things.
ReplyI think the carpets are like that because Vegas is open 24 hours that means 24 hours a day people are walking on them and they don't have someone vacuuming them all the time. If someone spills anything on these carpets, it won't be noticeable. That's why they chose these colors and prints.
ReplyI imagine the patterns are designed to hide spilled food, drinks, vomit, shattered dreams and diisllusionment...
