iPhone + Crock-Pot

iPhones and Crock-Pots an unlikely combination. Photos: Apple and Crock-Pot

Browsing the iPhone app store, you can see that the most popular apps are primarily games, like Frogger and Scrabble. However, mixed in with the fun are practical tools. One new and useful app comes from a surprising source: Crock-Pot. The 38-year-old company may manufacture a product most closely associated with the 1970s and a time of slower technology, but that doesn't mean they're not hip to the times.

According to Crock-Pot's site, their app can help you find a slow cooker recipe and then create a shopping list of ingredients based on your selection. Recipes are organized in a number of ways (course, ingredient, cuisine or slow cooker quart size), which makes the searching easier. However, searching by 'cuisine,' your only options are North America, England, France, Mexico, and other, which is really too bad, because I have to admit, I was excited for Thai slow-cooker recipes.

At the time of writing this, Crock-Pot® Slow Cooker Recipe Finder gets 3 ½ stars out of a possible 5 -- a so-so rating at best -- based on 41 user reviews. Personally, I found the app pretty easy to use. However, I admittedly neither have a slow cooker nor would I be include to seek out recipes on my iPhone, in the first place. However, if Everyday Food magazine comes out with an iPhone app, I will be the first to download it (EF is my go-to weeknight recipe source).
