Here at ShelterPop, we love bright ideas, especially easy and affordable do-it-yourself projects that anyone can make. So, it's no surprise that we were all gaga for this cute project in the September issue of ReadyMade: An organizer made out of empty Pringles boxes and Con-Tact paper. Genius!
To make this cute organizer, you simply cover nine chip tubes in faux bois, adhesive shelf paper (Yes, that is an awful lot of chips -- maybe you could make it out of mailing tubes instead?). Then ReadyMade instructs readers to "Apply a strip of contact cement or silicone-type adhesive down one side of a container and adhere it to another container." Repeat this until you've created a 3x3 tower like the photograph above.
Side note: ReadyMade magazine has been one of my favorite publications since it launched. Recently, there have been huge changes at ReadyMade (Meredith bought the magazine and moved its offices from Berkeley, CA to Des Moines, IA, which is where the publishing company is based). My fingers are crossed that the new editors will bring life back to a magazine that has been decidedly lackluster in recent issues. If the 'Totally Tubular' organizer is any sign, we're in for some fun, new ideas in upcoming issues.

Thanks for the post, Laura. We're glad you liked the idea, and hope to keep 'em coming. I'm one of the new staffers you mentioned (though as a former RM intern in 2005, I have a foot in each world). We're excited about what we've got in the works, and would definitely like to keep hearing from you about what you think.
ReplyThanks Katherine! We heart ReadyMade, and I'm a subscriber, so I will definitely be an attentive audience.
