The color trend for fall: Deep, rich hues. When an email with images of Jonathan Adler's new 'Volumes of Velvet' collection of fabrics for the hospitality industry from Valley Forge Fabrics appeared in our inbox, we sensed a trend in the making. Say goodbye to muted, neutral sofas and say hello to a new crop of super-saturated tones. In a statement, Jonathan explained his impulse for the new line, "I like my colors rich and juicy and, most importantly, velvety. There's something about velvet--it adds a depth and dimension to color that is mesmerizing."
After touring the New York International Gift Fair last month, our pal, Demi Adeniran, founder of Fabrica, a shop and interior design firm, confirms the trend. "I can see there is gravitation to rich colors and happy hues," says Demi. "As we head into the fall and winter months and folks spend more time nesting at home, a vibrant environment adds cheer to an otherwise gray season. The colors I'm seeing are emerald green, deep red, burnt orange, mustard yellow and royal blue."
We couldn't agree more that vibrant hues are a perfect antidote to cold weather doldrums. You don't need to reupholster all your furniture to get the look -- A throw or a pillow are a great way to work these rich, deep colors into your décor. We particularly love Crate & Barrel's Tempo Velvet Pillows ($36), which come in a range of rich tones.
