Adding an architectural detail creates a brand new style without you having to invest in a whole new window. First, measure your window. Next, find a piece of wood that will fit within the frame of this window. (Try a local hardware store or Home Depot).
Next, decide on the design you'd like for your window (ours was boho-chic). Trace the design on your wood, cut the detail out using a jigsaw, and paint the wood in a coordinating color with your drapes. Go for a decorative pattern that gives you adequate light and privacy.

Looking for an easy way to incorporate a great flea market or vintage find into your decor? Add a little twist to the traditional window tie-back. We took a tea saucer and hot-glued it to a hook that we picked up at RestorationHardware.com. Voila! The final look is streamlined and totally one-of-a-kind.

Committed to going green but don't want to hang hemp sacks on your windows? Opt for a clean, modern roller shade that delivers maximum light, a fashion-forward look, plus organic materials. Add a surprising layer by bringing life to the window's ledge with bamboo stalks. The roller shade is by Chilewich from The Shade Store.

Don't sweat it if you have a bad view. The trick is letting in light from above that distracts from what's at eye level. First, measure your window frame. Then choose a piece of decorative aluminum. It should meet the edge of your window's molding.
Paint it the same color as the window frame for a streamlined look or go bright and poppy to make a style statement. Secure it by screwing the corners to your window frame so it sits flush.

Cursed with a room that no window at all? Have no fear. You can create a faux window with drapery and the right mirror.
First, pick your room's focal point wall. Measure this so that you know how big -- or small -- of a piece you will need. Generally you'll want something that takes up about two thirds the entire length of the wall. Add a dresser and a mirror, along with a rod, grommets and geometric-print drapes to frame your mirror. Voila: instant window!

Just because you have different tastes doesn't mean you can't put a cool treatment together. Play with masculine and feminine details for a balanced look.
Choose plaid curtains but ditch the traditional rod and do something daring, like hanging them from a bamboo stick. Add textures and shades to work with this new window set-up, such as a sisal rug and throw pillows in deeper shades with bold floral designs.

Give each window a unique identity to create one polished look. We dressed the middle window in a bold, floral print to add drama. Dress the adjacent windows in accent colors that are visible in the middle design, such as we did with emerald and key lime.
Psst...you can even pull this look off if you don't have a center window. The drape itself will become a piece of art.
