Twig serving dish

The changing weather and the first signs of falling leaves have me thinking about fall. Soon enough all the trees will be bare and we'll all be bundled up in sweaters and scarves. With branches on the brain, I got to thinking about crafts that one could make from twigs and sticks. A bit of a hunt turned up five simple projects that you could easily make at home. For example, this clever serving dish (above) is made from two bowls and a branch. I'm loving the sleek meets rustic combo of white ceramic and natural wood. Here's some more twiggy inspiration:

Martha Stewart Living ran a whole story on sticks and stones last year. Here's one of my favorite projects from the story: A towel rack fashioned from a tree limb.

Another organization-themed project you can make with branches is this seaside-chic, driftwood coat rack from Sunset magazine. Here are the step-by-step instructions to make one yourself.

Curtain rods fashioned from branches are a simple way to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside.

For just a touch of twig style, Danny Seo suggests enjoying the last of the summer corn on corn holders made out of sharpened twigs.
