felt crazeWho knew that felt could make the perfect planter? Photo: Mio

What's warm and fuzzy and versatile enough to go from tabletop to tree limb out back? Felt, apparently. It was the material of choice at countless booths I stopped by at this year's New York International Gift Fair. Felt has been on our radar for some time now in an array of whimsical yet sophisticated incarnations, but last month's finds confirmed felt's status as the new "it" fabric in home décor. Take a look...

These "Squib" pendant lamps (below) from Lichen are made from 100 percent Merino wool and look like they were taken straight out of the break room of the Star Trek Enterprise.

Reversible bowls (below) from Etcetera Goods come in two sizes -- The large "Loaf" and the small "Bun" as well as four color combinations.

Merino-wool magazine racks (below) from Los Angeles design duo Gräf & Lantz are the perfect spot to stash keys, the remote, mail or any manner of easily misplaced items.

Gräf & Lantz make a range of home goods, from ottomans to pillows to coasters like those shown below. (Though the real object of my affection was their new line of felt clutches with an embossed zebra print, seen on the right. Hello, lover!)

Mio, a Philadelphia company founded by brothers Isaac and Jaime Salm, call this grid wall pocket "your organization hero" and that it is. The pendant and table lamps are also fashioned from felt and created in an Earth-friendly manner, like all of Mio's products.

Birdies who drop by these brightly colored feeders (below) may not want to leave! The cozy bird digs are the work of South African artist Ronel Jordaan, who also makes the most realistic looking felt rocks I've ever seen.
