Flowers are both a traditional and a modern option for table centerpieces, whether it be a wedding, large event or even just a small family gathering. However, flowers are not the only option -- There are lots of ways to create drama in the center of your table.

Whatever the occasion, I thought it would be super fun to find some beautiful and creative non-flower centerpieces that you can make in your own home. These are great for those suffering from allergies, or if you want your centerpiece to last all season!

First up is this pink ribbon centerpiece, which I discovered on Jenn's amazing blog, Hostess with the Mostess. As you may already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so you can have this one up all month! This one lies on a bed of flowers in a covered vase. Here's what I would do: First, I'd leave the glass vase alone so that you can see through, then I would add marbles, pebbles, rocks or sand in place of roses to make it last all month long. All the DIY details are here.

These candle holders (above left) from Pottery Barn are no longer available for purchase, but you can make them! It's super easy. Just hollow out a few pieces of wood large enough for you to place in your candles. No wood? Ask a local landscape company or tree service and save some before they go into the chipper.

This Harvest Centerpiece (above right) is created from tying together a fistful of wheat mixed with other dry branches and grasses that you can easily find at any craft store. This one is perfect for that upcoming Thanksgiving dinner you're thinking of hosting!

Wheatgrass (above left) instantly transforms any space from bland to ultramodern. If you're throwing a get together and are in need of a creative and innovative centerpiece, nothing is easier than a tin or vase full of well-trimmed wheatgrass.

Succulents! I love succulents for just about everything. How about planting them into a few goblets like these (above right) or placing a bunch of them together to look just like a floral arrangement?
