An average Persian rug? Never! Photo: Kattrin Sonnleitner

Sure, it looks like an average, everyday persian-style rug. Yet you should know by now that there's often more than what meets the eye, right (especially here at ShelterPop!)? Designer Katrin Sonnleitner created this jigsaw rug from a recyclable mixture of synthetic and natural rubber to promote family dynamics in the living room.

And although her design may not yet be available for manufacturing, we still find it worth mentioning here. Why? Because design is meant to be integrated into everyday life -- It's not always about a pretty object resting on the mantle. I love products that inspire conversation and encourage fun and togetherness among strangers and loved ones. Sonnleitner's rug is not to be excluded.

I wonder if this beauty ships in a box of 1,000 pieces? Photo: Kattrin Sonnleitner

Imagine your family scattered in front of a fireplace, piecing together a rug for them to share popcorn and tell stories around. And the beauty of it all? Next week, you can break it up and do it all over again. And again, and again, and again.

That, to me, is design. A bright idea for a fun-loving family.

That is so cool! I would love it. Just think of the different designs you could create since the pieces are all the same shape!

Very cool idea! I hope when (IF) they begin to manufacture this for retail sale they'll offer different color blends. I think that by making the pieces identically shaped, the design possibilities would be limitless. I'd probably buy one of these.

Persian? You've got to be kidding, and you're a design professional. It looks like a dizzying picture puzzle on steroids. It hurts my eyes. Make it go away. Gaaah!
