look for less

You can recreate this glam living room in your own home -- on a budget. Photo: Kishani Perera

I was inspired by this living room designed by Kishani Perera of Kishani Perera Interior Design. I love when designers mix an unexpected style (think: lucite, animal print rug, hot pink accents) into a more traditional home space. It's glitzy, it's glam, its eclectic, and I wish it was mine. So I'm going to take this room and recreate it with inexpensive items. Use this as a primer to add some glitz to your space without spending too much.

Adding pops of unexpected colors like hot pink can add a much-needed excitement to your space.

From left, clockwise: This Florence Sofa with Chaise in black, $1,299, from Overstock.com is pretty close to the charcoal one in the original living room. The Scraffito Vase Collection, $29.99 to $39.99, from Target has a fun line detail and will give the space some sparkle. Though the original lamp is navy blue, this Stenkol Black Organza Shade Lamp, $170, at Lamps Plus is the perfect addition to this room with its glamtastic shade and pull details. For the pink accent pillows you can try the Deep Pink Accent Pillow, $39.95, Saturna Silk, which is a more expensive choice and it is slightly muted, or you can go with something like the Poodle Pillow, $9.95, from Amazon, which is hot electric pink and fuzzy -- a much braver selection. This Peekaboo Clear Coffee Table, $249, cb2, is one of cb2's top rated products. And finally, the room couldn't be complete without this Zebra Shaped Rug, $169.95, ZGallerie -- it makes the space much more fun!

With the less expensive pillows and two vases, the total spent for this space is $1997.73 -- just shy of $2k -- including furniture! I've seen couches without a chaise that cost more than $2,000.
