According to the Los Angeles Times, Barbra decided to liquidate items from former homes that have been collecting dust in storage. Ranging from Louis XIV and Art Nouveau to Frank Lloyd Wright and Art Deco, these pieces deserve to be loved and cherished by a new owner. Barbra told the Los Angeles Times, "I have had some of these things in storage for so many years, it's ridiculous. They were things I loved and didn't want to get rid of. And then I thought, 'If you really can't use it, why not let someone else enjoy it?'" Right on, Babs.
So how did Barbra accumulate so much stuff? Well, it started when she was a teenager living in New York, where she began buying vintage clothing. Then, as she moved from home to home, she fell in love with interior design, specifically Art Deco -- she has had two Art Deco homes. She would decorate rooms in various styles, and then move on. Today, she very rarely buys anything new -- She recently decorated her living room with a pair of pillows that she purchased 25 years ago. "I don't buy something unless it is very special," she says.
Take a look at the items up for auction below.
Barbra Streisand Auction
Barbra Streisand is auctioning off 500 of her antiques and collectibles on October 17th and 18th. The design-loving diva, who is passionate about home decor and lives in Malibu (sigh), will donate the proceeds to the Streisand Foundation, which supports environmental and women's health programs. She's also writing a book on decorating her Malibu home, which is expected out next Christmas.
Let's take a look at the offerings, shall we?
You can buy a set of Barbra's vintage white wicker furniture, which features a sofa, two rocking armchairs and another armchair -- all with vintage pink cushions. It's quite a deal considering that the estimated $1500 to $2500 price tag also includes a rectangular coffee table, a pair of round side tables, an oval coffee table and a magazine basket. Nine pieces in all!
Here's Barbra posing on the wicker sofa.
Dating to 1972, her Yamaha Baby Grand piano in black lacquer comes with the matching bench and has an estimated value of $8000 to $10,000.
Sip from Barbra's teapot. The modern wedgewood sterling pattern lidded teapot comes with a single cup and saucer as well as a silverplated bud vase. Barbra used the set on stage with Neil Diamond in 2004.
See if you can spot the tea set on stage.
A rocking chair valued at between $12,000 and $15,000. Really? Yup. Designed by Harvey Ellis, there's inlaid pewter and copper on the seat back. If you look closely, it's actually quite exquisite.
This vintage dental cabinet was one of the first things she bought when she first hit the limelight when she was 18. Value: $1000 to $1500
Here's the cabinet in a very fuddy-duddy setting. Ick. But it could be really cool. Just imagine it in an all-white room decorated with modern decor. It would really stand out. Plus, I just love any piece of furniture with lots and lots of drawers.
A painting attributed to Dutch painter Kees Van Dongen, valued at between $100,000 and $200,000. Will the fat lady sing?

ReplyWell first off, all these belongings come from may homes owned by Barbra, not just one, they things were in storage. All the monies will go to the Streisand Foundation to help heal the world. This lady has given so much money to help us all that it is almost unbelievable. From cancer research to pollution she has given tens of millions of dollars to help us all. Plus, she will probably go down as one of the greatest entertainers of all times, winning every possible award and more record sales than any other female performer ever. Be glad we have a Barbra Streisand and thank her for everything she is doing.
