Until now. The York House in Lisboa, Portugal has changed my views -- one lovingly decorated room at a time. With modern, crisp furnishings and an incredible scenic exterior, the York House has had my heart going pitter-pattering for Portugal since, ohhhh...9am this morning. Once a former convent, the York House became a hotel in early 1880. Of course, the "hotel" housed one small oven and offered a spare bedroom for rent. Almost 130 years later, the York House has come a long way, baby.
Freshly renovated in 2003, the York House boasts 32 spacious, comfortable bedrooms, multiple terraces, patios and various meeting rooms. And although I doubt I'd be traveling to Lisboa for business, something tells me I wouldn't mind making use of those beautiful conference tables.

I'm a total sucker for symmetry in decor, so naturally, I'm drawn to the York House's richly furnished twin bedroom suites. I have to admit -- I can't imagine bringing children to such a luxurious getaway, but if I did, they'd be napping in the best room on the block.
Who knows? Perhaps a destination holiday at the York House is in my future. If only I could find that passport...
