Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Nothing spruces up a dull, dreary kitchen like a can of paint to a few outdated cabinets. And although this makeover is quick, easy and inexpensive, there's a certain science to painting your kitchen cabinets. Luckily, DIY Network has a few tips on how to make it happen -- the right way:


1. Remove it.
Remove your cabinet doors and hardware. While you're at it, spray paint that hardware with a new, shiny coat of metallic silver. After all, your new cabinets deserve all the bling they can handle!
2. Clean it.
Paint won't set properly on a dirty cabinet. Be sure to clean the cabinet's surfaces to remove any dirt, grease or grime. This is also a good time to sand down any unwanted knots or blemishes in the wood.
3. Prime it.
Priming is one of the key steps to any paint job -- never, ever skip it! Feel free to use a disposable brush for this task, as the finish isn't quite as important.
4. Paint it.
Use a high-quality brush and apply two to three thin coats of paint, letting dry between each coat. Always paint with the grain, as opposed to against the grain to ensure a clean, streak-free finish.
5. Hang it.
After your paint has dried, hang those new cabinets and admire your new kitchen.
