Growing plants indoors isn't just good for brightening up your decor: it can actually make you healthier. Plants cleanse the indoor air of toxins and help you breathe easier. If you want to give your green thumb a shot indoors, try some of these plants. They are among the best indoor plants.
Peace Lily
The Peace Lily is a small flowering plant that grows especially well in artificial light. Keep it watered regularly to prevent drooping and this plant will thrive in most any indoor environment.
Braided Ficus
The Ficus is one of the most common indoor plants. Big-box stores across the country sell potted Ficus plants throughout the year because they grow so well indoors. Extremely easy to care for, the most common problem people have growing Ficus trees indoors is the tendency to overwater. If the leaves turn yellow, quit watering so much. Mist the tree a couple of times a day and only water when soil is dry to the touch.
Mother-in-Law's Tongue
If you want a low-maintenance, easy-to-grow but still attractive plant, try the Sansevieria trifaciata, or "Mother-in-Law's Tongue" plant. It grows well in low light and only needs a small amount of water. Its long, dark green leaves with light-green edges are attractive for any decor.
Heart Leaf Philodendron
Another one of the best plants to grow indoors is the Heart Leap Philodendron, but if you have pets (or kids) who like to try to munch on indoor foliage, you should skip it. The leaves are poisonous. The Heart Leaf Philodendron needs very little light and doesn't want much water. It's also one of the most effective plants at cleaning indoor air.
