Remember potato stamping? I bet the last time you used a potato stamp was some time in elementary school. However, this grade school crafting technique is actually a very simple way to create a custom stamp. The napkin above was created with a stamp cut from an ordinary spud!
To make your own stamped napkins you will need:
- Napkins
- A potato
- A pumpkin (or other fall motif) cookie cutter
- A pairing knife
- Fabric paint
- A small paint brush
- Wax paper

Step One: Cut a potato in half and press your cookie cutter into the cut side of one half.

Step Two: Leave the cutter in the potato and cut all around the potato, pressing your knife against the metal of the cookie cutter.

Step Three: Once you have cut all the way around, remove the cookie cutter and the cut-away section of potato. You will have a protruding pumpkin shape left on the potato half.

Step Four (optional): For further detail, you can use a linoleum cutting tool to add details to your pumpkin (or other shape).
Step Five: Cover the stamp with paint using a brush to distribute it evenly. Practice stamping on a piece of paper before stamping the napkins.
Step Six: Lay a piece of wax paper beneath the napkin to protect your work surface from any fabric paint that may bleed through. Stamp a pumpkin in each corner of the napkin.
Step Seven: Let dry and set paint according to package directions
