A traditional planter gone Polaroid? Yes! Photo: Metaphys

As is often the case with many great trends, the death of Polaroid film has launched the birth of Polaroid-inspired products. I've seen it all, from magnets to tees and everything in between. Yet one of my favorite Polaroid-inspired projects comes from ceramicist Jung Hwajin and is, sadly, not yet in production. Of course, I immediately trolled the Internet to find a similar concept and stumbled on this Metaphys "picture planter," which is (just my luck!) sold out. Argh! Never one to take the answer "no" lightly, I began brainstorming ways to re-create a Polaroid planter of my own.

Luckily, I spotted this cheap picture frame from Urban Outfitters. Here's my idea:

1. Purchase (2) UO picture frames and disassemble them, so you have two front, cut-out pieces to work with.

2. Grab some planter's grass and Saran wrap to sandwich the grass between the two plastic pieces.

3. Glue the plastic framing pieces together, leaving space for your Saran-wrapped grass to slide out when it needs replaced.

4. Hang with fishing wire, and presto --- a Polaroid-inspired grass planter.

Of course, this is much more for decoration than function, as Saran wrap isn't the most plant-friendly material. Yet I can't imagine how lovely the finished look would be in front of my kitchen window.

Give it a try; I dare you!
