Back in 1993, Kate Brosnahan probably didn't realize she was launching an empire when she designed her first simple, utilitarian handbag under the name Kate Spade New York. Today Kate Spade is a well-known brand with more than 46 stores around the world. These days one of those shops in particular is the shining star of the Kate Spade empire.

Earlier this year, Kate Spade New York redesigned its flagship 5th Avenue shop. The results are the essence of Kate Spade: bright colors, crisp graphics and a healthy dose of whimsy, realized in three-dimensions. (See the original redesign above.) Kate Spade didn't stop with that first design, the shop is on its third evolution since reopening its doors. The original rainbow-striped motif has since been replaced with a glitz look dominated by a wall of over-sized, gold sequins -- a perfect salute to the impending holiday season. (See below.)

A visit to the glittering 5th Avenue shop is like walking into the dream space of Kate Spade's creative team. You'll find Kate Spade's signature handbags and new clothing line hanging out amidst vintage furniture and collectibles. Lomo cameras are displayed in a way that suggests you could pick one up and shoot, while a vintage Olivetti typewriter awaits customers. (In a cheeky high-tech meets lo-fi twist, you can type up suggestions for Kate Spade's Twitter feed.) Patent leather-trimmed, red purses sit on display like sculptures.

The 5th Avenue store's look will continue to evolve with each new collection, and we can't wait to see the next iteration of Kate Spade's fun and playful interiors.
