Apple Centerpiece

Instead of spending big bucks on a flower-filled centerpiece this Thanksgiving, opt for this easy and affordable, natural table topper.

To create this look, I used a slice of a birch log, apples, pine cones and plain, white votive candles. To make your own apple votive holders, select apples that stand up straight. Use a melon-baller to scoop out a hole in the top of the candle that is big enough to accommodate a votive. Repeat to create as many candles as you like -- odd numbers have a more casual feel.

Place the apple votives on top of a slice of a birch log (available at many craft and garden stores). Then place extra apples on the table and arrange pine cones throughout the design. You could incorporate other fall fruits or elements like acorns and leaves. Natural-hued linens and simple china are a natural pair for the centerpiece.

When you are done, the uncut apples are ready to be eaten, and if you cut away the part of the apples that touched the wax, you can use those for a pie or to make applesauce.
