Kelly Wearstler for Pickard

Serving as a judge on Top Design has made Kelly Wearstler one of the few interior designers to be a well-known, household name. She's also one of the few decorators named one of Vogue's best-dressed women. I've loved Kelly ever since I first laid eyes on her design for the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica, and was awe-struck by her book Modern Glamour: The Art of Unexpected Style when it came out in 2004.

Over the years, Kelly's style has changed and evolved, and I always love seeing her latest wild designs. A recent collaboration, which shows a decidedly restrained side of Ms. Wearstler's style, is her line of china for Pickard China, a 116-year-old china manufacturer. The four patterns in the line (Trousdale, Hillcrest, Pickfair and Mulholland) are all cast in a relatively subdued palette of grays, tans and metallic tones on a white base. The patterns themselves quietly hearken back to the 1920s and 30s. Of course, it wouldn't be Kelly Wearstler without a touch of glamour, so each pattern features gold details or highlights.

While I'd love to see Kelly Wearstler for Target, I'm not holding my breath. In the meantime, I'll have to be satisfied with daydreaming about beautiful porcelain pieces (like $126 cereal bowls--ouch!) for Pickard China.
