Thanksgiving Crafts: Leaf-Wrapped Hurricanes
Categories: DIY: Done in a Day, Party Ideas & Table Settings

Wrapping hurricanes or votives with leaves is a quick, easy way to dress up your home for Thanksgiving. Best of all, if you already have the glass hurricane, this craft is practically free: Leaves are available for the picking right outside your door and twine costs just a dollar or so per ball. This is a also cost-effective craft because you can easily remove the foliage, so that you can use the glass votive again throughout the year.
To make your own leaf-wrapped votive, you'll need a straight-sided glass vessel and a handful of fallen leaves (I used ones from an oak tree). Look for leaves that are still vibrant and not completely dried out and try to select ones that are all of a similar size.
Wrap a rubber band around the top portion of votive (this will hold the leaves in place temporarily until you tie on the twine). Arrange the leaves around the exterior of the votive, slightly overlapping each leaf and tucking each under the rubber band so that it will stay in place.
Once all your foliage is in place, wrap a length of twine around the center of the leaves three times and secure with a simple double knot. Remove the rubber band and place a candle inside your vessel.
