master suite, master bedroom

A serious eyesore of a master suite... but not for long! Photo: AOL Real Estate

Of all the rooms in a home, I love master suites most. A cozy haven to get away from children, pets or whatever else is running around like a banshee, the master suite should always reflect the calm and collected atmosphere that it is. Unfortunately, for this home currently on the market in Scottsdale, Arizona, the master suite more accurately reflects the bedroom of Fred and Wilma Flintstone. That floor? And that fireplace? And those bare, white walls? Eek!

wallpaper, rug, chandelier, side tables, beddingThe recipe for success in this master bedroom cave? Femininity, glamour and texture. Photo(s), clockwise from left to right: Anna French, Anthropologie, 1stDibs, Crate and Barrel, John Robshaw

First priority? Warm up the space. Start by adding a few textured accents like new John Robshaw bedding in a Naga coffee-inspired fabric and sheepskin poufs from West Elm.

Next up? Every space needs a feminine touch, and this one is lacking in a big way. With so many hard, cold surfaces, a hefty dose of baroque should do the trick. I'd pair this rococo-style headboard from Flemington Design with an Anthropologie doily rug.

Lastly, I'm a firm believer in a bit of glamour for each and every space in the home. I'd add this gorgeous Italian chandelier from 1st Dibs, along with a set of Moreno side tables as nightstands.

Vast improvement, right? Add some favorite artwork on the walls along with this Anna French wallpaper to break up those white walls. Suddenly this cave dwelling looks more like a chic love den! Grrrrr!
