A sneak peek at IKEA's new iPhone app launch! Photo: IKEAFans

Flatpackers and gadgeteers unite: there's a new app in town and it just happens to be from your favorite Swedish mega retailer, IKEA. Developed by London-based media entertainment company Cake Group, the app is officially available to the UK market as of today, December 3rd. Boasting an iPhone version of the latest IKEA catalogue, users can skim through images of various rooms, zoom in and out on areas of the room and click on furniture and accents to purchase.

So what's the market for such an app? I'm not sure. Interior designers and space planners could benefit, yes, but the average consumer may not be entirely interested. Nevertheless, we think it's a step in the right direction toward eco-friendly and creative marketing. According to The Mirror, IKEA says the new app is"part of its plan to reduce paper use in its heaving catalogues/tomes."

That's what we like to hear! Check out a video preview of the new app's usability on YouTube and applaud away. Go, IKEA!
