We've seen it on a chair and even a sofa, but a doodle wall? After spotting this lovely image in the portfolio of photographer Patric Johansson, I can't keep my mind off the idea. How fun would it be to invite a few friends over for a housewarming party and have them place their own [literal!] stamp of approval on your abode?

To keep the idea chic and not childish, follow a few key rules:
1. Stick to a neutral color scheme and create depth with patterns, rather than color.
2. Ration off a designated space for the doodles. Here, the homeowner has delineated the space with architectural crown molding.
3. Furnish with classic pieces, such as a Stockholm-inspired rug and retro arc lamp.

The aesthetic is part of a new design evolution I like to call "Perfectly Imperfect," where creative individuals are seeking new ways to personalize their space with DIY-oriented techniques. What do you think? Yay or nay?

My daughter-in-law did a similar idea except she painted a very large piece of framed stretched canvas. She used a rich dark cranberry and hung it onone of her walls. Then as anyone came to visit, she gave them a gold pen to add their name and any comment they wished to make. As time went on, it became quite a treasure to read the messages family and friends had left.

What is old is new again...in the late 60's my mother painted a hallway wall white and my father framed it out with molding. Anyone welcomed into the home was welcome to write on the wall.
