Pier 1

WE'RE SORRY, BUT THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER. CHECK BACK SOON FOR ANOTHER GREAT GIVEAWAY.

This holiday season, don't deck the halls with boughs of holly. Deck them with the glittery goodness that is this vibrant red mosaic mirror exclusively from Pier 1. We're giving away TEN of them!

The round mirror is bordered by a mosaic made of tiny pieces of glass in shimmery shades of red and gold. It measures 23 inches in diameter. A wire strung on the back makes it easy to hang. Once you've hung the wreath and trimmed the tree, hang this mirror for a final touch. Santa may want to make sure he doesn't have soot on his nose.

To enter to win, leave a comment below telling us your holiday decorating theme. Will you have a Christmas tree covered in butterflies? A giant inflatable dreidel? Something else? (Still undecided? Get thee to Pier 1, one of our favorite places to decorate in a hurry on a budget.)

I don't actually have a theme. My Christmas decorations are basically a collection of what makes me smile. I have lots of snowmen and nutcrackers and my nativity scene would make purists shudder because I have every animal you can think of featured (down to a walrus), and my tree is filled with an eclectic assortment of ornaments ranging from lovely blown glass to handmade ones from my childhood and lots of birds for luck. One of my favorite times of the entire year is unwrapping each ornament and remembering where it came from.

My decorating theme this year is Red and Silver, with some hues of purple and blue thrown in. No more traditional red and green.

This is my first time decorating and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do a different "theme' each year. But so far, I'm trying to keep it on the budget route with family heirloom ornaments, lots of pine cones from around my neighborhood in Indiana and just this weekend I worked on a project making ornamental garland for the fireplace that I found on another blog. I can't link to it here, but it's pretty easy: just twine, hooks and some affordable decorative ball ornaments in silver and maroon from Target. Try it, it's pretty simple but looks classy and festive!

Red and gold. And nothing fussy. If the cats want to nap in the tree, so be it.

My theme, if it can be called that, is that I have no theme. Some of my tree decorations go back to when my parents first married in the late 1920s, through the years we kids were growing up we added more and added a few when my kids were growing up and now getting input from granddaughters. Have so many now that I usually have to pick and choose but those that don't fit on the tree I scatter around the house. My favorite is a white church, 4 feet high with a 6 ft. high steeple with stained glass windows (actually cigarette wrapper cellophanes dyed with ink) which my dad built in 1958. It sits on our porch every Christmas and although the carols coming from it are now on a CD player it is the same as when he built it. I know he is up in heaven looking down on it every year as he was so proud of it.

Mismatched and sentimental. Lots of memories in most every ornament!

Plastic ornaments this year, due to a baby round the house. Kid friendly and decorated by them!

My Christmas theme this year — and every year — is reminding myself of childhood. When I moved to Chicago, my mom sent me a box with a bunch of old ornaments (I collect bears and bells) for my own Christmas tree. I'm not going back to my hometown for Christmas this year, and this tree comforts me and reminds me of family and childhood Christmases.
