Congratulations, turquoise -- according to Pantone, you're hot to trot in the new year! Just yesterday, color experts at PANTONE® announced 15-5519 turquoise as the color of the year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.

"In many cultures, turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color," explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy."

Even better? Turquoise is noted to be universally flattering, making it a top choice for home furnishings and decor worldwide. Whether paired with mustard accents or deep reds, turquoise is both versatile and glamorous in every setting. Ready to infuse a bit of turquoise in your home and jump-start the trend? Here are a few of our top picks!:

Turquoise is apparently on a 30-year cycle. It was big in the '50s and again in the '80s. And, right on schedule, here it comes again!
BTW if there is a color that is "universally flattering", it sure isn't turquoise!

Someone painted the inside of my 1920's Arts and Crafts bungalow turquoise in the 1950's I am guessing.........so you are right!

I found it when I scraped away a few layers of paint.I also found Shocking Pink under there!

The house I now live in was built in the early '50s. The exterior was salmon-colored with turquoise trim. A number of stores in this area of Southern California, including some large malls, were built with a similar theme in the early '80s. Perhaps they had a southwestern
vision in mind. Now, orange and yellow! Those are some colors that go with anything and look great together--especially for home interiors.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. What you consider someone else's eyesore is their palace. YUK, maybe You have no taste according to someone else.

I agree with Anna-Jo - I Love powder blue and turquoise. Maybe it is You who has the bad taste. I feel sorry for Your neighbors

i am a designer and i dont care what the www says this shade is a BIG no-no.period.corals,neutrals,faux finishes and warmer shades are whats in and if you must have this hideous shade do it w/ pillows, pictures, and other room accents and keep the walls a more natural tone. its cheaper AND can be changed w/ your taste as time goes on.

Who the heck decided that? Some over-educated half-retarded moron sitting at some desk is some fashion magazine corporate headquarters.

Piss on turquoise....I say Puke Green is the 2010 color! Now all I've got to do is get some random news media coverage on it & I'm on my way to ruling to world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All these hot new home colors become outdated quickly. When I built my home in 1991 mauve was the, "it" color. I have a mauve kitchen, mauve carpeting etc. Back in the day it was fantastic. Now, it's old hat, and looks it too. I used to laugh when people stuck to the old standard of tan and white. Now I'm not laughing anymore and looking to update (with a neutral color). These, so called, designers have to remember that not everyone has an endless supply of money and can update everytime they decide that, this or that is out and what they think is in. Granite countertops for kitchens will go the way of the colored lament in another 10 to 15 years. And, something "new" and better will be the "it" thing.

how true. always go w/ neutral wall tones and accessories to bring in the color of the "moment" or your color choice. easier to change the look and cheaper.btw, im a designer.

How rediculous to listen to the whack-o collective at Pantone. Yes, they have an advanced color matching system that has the potential of solving many communication problems world wide for designers, but that does not make them the final authority on color selection.
Watch the "low end" Wal Marts and K-Marts fill up with this lower class choice only to be replaced next year with something equally hideous.
True taste in color comes from your soul and should never be dictated by opinionated, misdirected fools like this.

Well woohoo I'm in style for a change. Actually I painted most of my condo aqua about 2 years ago, just like the calming effect of it.

Believe it or not, it can be a very lovely color in your home. All the walls don't need it, it can be an accent wall color, pillows, the new sofa, an area rug, looks great in a bedroom for a bed set.

Yeah these people who make these supposed it colors never work in the trade or home industry as colors like this bring the entire value and desire of a property down dramatically so if you dont mind devaluing your home and if you dont want to ever sell it enjoy but anyone who is involved with homes knows these are very bad ideas that hurt you financially.

I LOOOOOVE Turquoise! And I don't need some fashion magazine to tell me to love it, I've always loved it. Now I hope no one does jump on the bandwagon b/c that's my sh*t lol.

The key is, don't go overboard with the color of the moment - use it for accessories that can easily be changed. It has been a fact for a long time that turquoise clothes look good on everyone. I've always loved that color, so I'm happy it's back in decorating. I remember back in the '50's my grandma and I bought my parents a turquoise dial phone for Christmas. I was so sad when I cleaned out my parents' home when they left it, I couldn't find it. It would be an antique today AND back in style!!

The house I grew up in was built around 1963. It had turquoise countertops, sink, and appliances in the kitchen.

Yes! Turquoise is a great color. Of course, you don´t have to listen to a company to select a color for you. Some people don´t have sense for color and they are going good with buying advise from others. Furthermore turquoise at the coast won´t last forever, if we continue to allow the industrial garbage or trash from touriosm cover the coasts.
Most people think of paradise and wonderful beaches when you ask them about turquoise. If pantone uses it´s impact to gain attention on turquoise, it´s in your hands what you´re going communicate within. ;-)

All the best for you and yours in 2010!

    Follow the color!
