Christmas breakfast is a big tradition in my family -- a last hurrah before we all head home to our own humble abodes after spending a late Christmas Eve night with our grandparents. Naturally, since we're all so exhausted from the previous evening, breakfast normally consists of a few pancakes, sausage and, if we're lucky, hot chocolate.

This year, I hope to step it up a notch and offer to set a sweet and inspired holiday table that will send us kids off in style. Here are some tips for setting a festive holiday breakfast table.

1. Keep it Simple
It's breakfast time, so skip those chargers, candlesticks and floral arrangements. Instead, opt for a simple place setting and cloth napkins. Leave the rest for dinnertime or evening festivities.

2. Paper It
No one wants to spend their Christmas afternoon by the dishwasher, so break out those paper plates. You can dress the table up with a textured table runner and save the pizazz for afternoon. Even better? Disposable flatware. After all, a day away from the dishes is the best holiday gift a gal could want!

3. Let the Food be the Star
Keep a breakfast table uncluttered and let the food be the focal point by mixing berries, fruit and scones onto traditional platters and dishware. Bring in a few ornament-filled vases from your living room decor and you're set to go!

Of course, no breakfast table is complete without a delicious meal. Check out a few simple and fast recipes we love, perfect for those sleepy Christmas mornings!
