Say hello to my (big) friend. Photo: AOL

Have I shared the good news with you yet? I purchased a serious fixer-upper here in the Midwest last November and I am slowly but surely making it livable by my standards. And yes, those standards are higher than Balloon Boy's supposed venture across the Colorado state line. I tend to be very picky when it comes to furnishings, renovations and spaces, so naturally, it's a slow-going process.

Regardless, can I pause for a moment to say what an insane resource I've found? Good. Because I'm going to anyway. I'm a huge fan of IKEA, so I've settled on a few cabinets and shelving units from my favorite Swedish retailer (I can't wait to share them with you!). And the process couldn't have been easier with the help of the IKEA Kitchen Center.

Caveat: Yes, I realize IKEA is a sponsor of ours, but hey -- I know a good thing when I see it.

Complete with a square footage calculator, virtual kitchen planner and inspiration list, the site is a surefire way to organize your favorite IKEA finds. A few items I've just added to my inspiration list? The KROKEN ceiling-mounted utensil rack and STENSTORP kitchen trolley, both of which would go famously with my white Scandinavian soon-to-be-realized kitchen.

I love that my finds are organized in one handy place, along with helpful tips and tricks from IKEA experts. It's like Christmas all over again!

Go forth and renovate, dear readers!
