diy chandeliersWhat can you do with 12,500 toothpicks? Daisuke Hiraiwa

File this under "Don't Try At Home." These projects are pretty to look at and no doubt inspiring, but they're from the pros. Let's face it, a chandelier made out of paper plates? Get the fire station on speed dial...

Still, we enjoyed the awe-factor of these projects so much that we had to share.

1. Toothpicks and Plastic Spoons
London-based designer Daisuke Hiraiwa displayed two incredible handmade light fixtures at ICFF in May 2009.

2. Plastic Objects
The Tide chandelier comes from lighting designer Stuart Haygarth, who created it from clear and translucent objects that washed ashore, primarily made of plastic.

3. Hangers
Made from wooden hangers, the Hangelier comes from Vancouver duo Alex and Courtney of Organelle Design.

4. Egg Cartons

The Origen Lamp is a hanging light fixture from Otero Design made of, yes, egg cartons.

5. Plastic Cups

A talented Etsy seller Sunfish820 is the brainchild of a plastic cup chandelier.
