If I ever make my way to Cape Town, I'll spend at least one night at The Grand Daddy Hotel. While the hotel itself sounds like a welcome retreat with its contemporary suites and marble bathrooms, the real draw for me would be the Grand Daddy's 'penthouse' trailer park. On the roof of this mild-looking gray and white hotel, there is a collection of seven vintage Airstream trailers -- and you can spend the night!

The gleaming metal Airstreams sit in a garden-like setting with walkways. A mailbox announces the name of each of the seven trailers, which are named to reflect their unique interiors. Each Airstream has been designed and outfitted by local artists. The inspirations for the eclectic interiors run the gamut from Yoko Ono to Goldilocks.

Don't worry, you won't be paying for a true camping experience, each trailer is filled for running water, flush toilets and showers.

Dorothy by Sarah Pratt
You'll feel like you're in the clouds in this Airstream decked in baby blue and white polka dots. According to Big Daddy's site, this trailer features a changing mini-exhibition of artworks by Pratt.

Love of Lace by Tracy Lynch
This pretty-in-pink interior was designed by local lingerie designer Tracy Lynch. Think of this romantic retreat is like a boudoir on wheels.

Goldilocks and the 3 Bears by Mark and Joe Stead
A kid-friendly camper inspired by the classic nursery tale, adults will appreciate the grown-up naughty bear humor, while kids will love the bunk bed.

Pleasantville by Liam Mooney
Named for the 1998 film, this Airstream's been styled with 1950s accessories and palette by Liam Mooney, creative director and designer of Whatiftheworld (Liam's also the creative director of The Airsteam Penthouse Park project).

Do you mean Cape Town in South Africa, or someplace closer? I would love to stay there, but South Africa is not on my itinerary!

Gail, don't be such an elitist snob! A trailer park on the lake is where I spent my summer youth. It was awesome.! It was Margaritville, it was Cinco de Mayo, it was a Party in a Can (we used to say) Fun and fond memories. It was Americana at its best and Airstream, You can not get better.
Try it. Relaxing and also mobile. I was loving it.

Gail you must lead a very sheltered life !!!

Can't stand the thought of getting away from your cheap studio apartment slum huh?
For all of you, and it is ALL of you...UNEDUCATED fools, Airstreams like these were the ROLLS ROYCE of TRAVEL TRAILERS in their day! Only the wealthy could afford them. DUMB A$$ES.
Educate yourselves before you spew your ignorant comments for the world to scoff at! HAVE A NICE DAY!

Please tell me where this is located...Cape Town ?....I would LOVE to go there...Airstream was indeed high-end camping in their day!!!....it would be awesome to take a vacation there....at least try something once (like my mother use to tell me) before you say you don't like it....I can still remember a very funny movie that Lucille Ball and her husband made with her in the trailer while he was pulling it down the road with the car....TOOOOO FUNNNNY!!!!!!!

Wow! I love the way the insides of these traliers have been decorated. This is one experience I would love to have....so 50's. Or sixties? Whatever it is, it's so unlike anywhere else I have stayed

Sad to see the comments. We go camping often (we live in NZ so this is common) and have never seen anything like these babies.

Those trailers look pretty cool! I live in a mobile home myself and it costs very little to live there, space rent and utilities cost me @ $600 a month and I have my own fenced in yard, garden, storage, a little space in the back (so it's not visible to others) a clothesline. I would never want to live in an overpriced home that's going to get foreclosed on because the bills can't get paid. Don't be such a snob Gail, you may very well live in one in the future and you will have to adapt to giving up some things and doing things differently than the "Joneses". Thank you for reading. : )

I have an Airstream and in the process of restoring it. Its very expensive and going to be worth it. Some of them cost in the 100K range, where do you get off saying its trashy. Get a life and go camping.
