Imagine it's the future and mobile pod-like offices are being designed. Oh wait, the future is now.

When I first laid eyes on this egg-shaped pod on wheels, I thought: what the heck is this thing? Well, after further investigation I discovered that it was a mobile office, but could easily do double duty as a mini-home.

The egg-mobile, aptly named the "Blob VB3," was designed by Belgian architecture firm dmvA for Xfactoragencies. Initially, Xfactoragencies was looking for a new extension to be added to their existing office.

But after their local building authorities continued to reject the proposed designs, the architects and client came up with a new solution that would zip past all regulations: an office extension on wheels.

The Blob has a smooth white surface made primarily of polyester, and resembles an oversized hard-boiled egg. The Blob is essentially designed as a living pod. Inside the Blob you will find a bathroom, kitchen, interior lighting, a bed and wall storage. The structure opens at the "nose" of the egg-shape, which makes you feel like you're sitting on a porch.

Its design is versatile in that it could essentially become guest quarters or miniature mobile home. What would you say if your friends asked you to spend the night in their pod in the backyard? What an adventure!

The entire project took 18 months to complete. The Blob is currently on exhibit at the Verbeke Art Foundation as an installation. I wonder if the folks at Xfactoragencies ever got to use their mobile office?

It is written that the portable office looks like an hard boiled egg. Does an hard boiled egg differ in appearance from an uncooked egg?
